Their groundbreaking solution, featuring a Quadplane VTOL aircraft and a magnetic anomaly detection suite, not only tackled a complex problem but also presented a robust and cost-effective method for enhancing national security through long-range maritime surveillance.

Dear Alumnus/Alumna,

As we say goodbye to the transformative month of February, I warmly welcome you to March, a month filled with promises of new discoveries and accomplishments. Your alma mater remains a hub of progress, seamlessly intertwining the past, present, and future.

In commemorating International Women’s Day, let’s take a moment to reflect on the crucial role that women students and professors play in shaping the landscape of our Institute. From contributing to fields like Semi-X, Quantum, CSE, and BSBE, to pioneering breakthroughs, our women scholars are integral to the innovation and progress at IIT Bombay. Their contributions not only exemplify excellence but also reinforce our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where talent knows no gender. Let us collectively appreciate and support the diverse achievements of our women in STEM as we move forward toward creating a more equitable and empowered IIT Bombay.

I am delighted to share that our Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi recently inaugurated the IIT Bombay Research Park, marking a transformative milestone for our alma mater and reinforcing our commitment to innovation and excellence. This momentous event not only underscores our esteemed institution’s commitment to innovation but also signifies a transformative leap into a future where cutting-edge research and excellence thrive. Look for a Special Report on the event in the newsletter.

We kickstarted February with the inauguration of the cutting-edge C1973 Electric Vehicle Power Train Lab, the Class of 1973’s Legacy Project, on campus. The Lab is a testament to IIT Bombay’s commitment to pioneering advancements in electric vehicle research and is generously sponsored by the Class of 1973. IIT Bombay also presented the Faculty Awards for Research Excellence (FARE) for the first time, recognizing and incentivizing outstanding research contributions from our esteemed faculty. These awards were also established by the 1973 batch. Look out for a Special Report on the EV Lab in the newsletter.

An 18-member team from IIT Bombay visited Pune for our Pune Alumni Connect 2024. I am delighted that the event was a resounding success with a day filled with laughter, shared memories, and renewed connections, that showcased the vibrant spirit of our IIT Bombay alumni community. Look for more, including some fun images of the occasion, under the Legacy of Excellence section in the newsletter

IIT Bombay hosted its annual Foundation Day on March 7, 2024. As always we recognized some of our outstanding alumni through the presentation of our annual Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Awards (DAA) and Young Alumni Achiever Awards (YAAA) for 2024. We also hosted a networking dinner in the evening. The occasion offered our attendees an opportunity to connect with current and past award recipients, as well as notable alumni donors and dignitaries from the Institute. Please look for a detailed Special Report in our next month (April 2024) newsletter on the same.

As always, we have all of our other regular articles including Student Success Stories, Faculty Accolades, Institute News and Highlights, Upcoming Events, and more in this month’s newsletter.
