Unlocking CSR for Impactful Research: Unveiling IIT Bombay's Annual CSR Conclave 2024

IIT Bombay is gearing up to host the 3rd edition of its highly anticipated Annual CSR Conclave on June 14, 2024. The theme of this year’s Conclave is "Unlocking CSR for Impactful Research." The event promises to be a dynamic platform for thought leaders, innovators, and industry experts to converge and explore the transformative potential of collaborative innovation. It will leverage the power of CSR and corporate philanthropy to fuel research endeavours and technology breakthroughs that benefit both society and the nation.

Joining the Conclave this year will be IITB's Distinguished Alumnus and Chief Guest, Mr. Adil Zainulbhai (B.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 1977), Chairman, Capacity Building Commission, Government of India (established in 2021 to enhance the Indian Civil Service). He previously chaired the Quality Council of India and retired as Chairman of McKinsey India in 2014, after 34 years with the firm.

Building a Sustainable Future: IIT Bombay's Team SHUNYA Wins Solar Decathlon

Team SHUNYA, comprising a dedicated group of students from IIT Bombay and sustainability enthusiasts, was placed first at the prestigious US Solar Decathlon Design Challenge 2024. The team took the premier spot in the Multifamily Building Division for their innovative Project Samsara. This achievement marks their third consecutive win at the prestigious international competition, held from April 19-21, 2024, at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden, Colorado.

Team SHUNYA, initiated 12 years ago by Prof. Rangan Banerjee (now the Director of IIT Delhi), embodies a commitment to promoting sustainable housing in an urbanizing nation. Their latest project, Samsara, embodies this vision, aiming to enhance health and safety within slum rehabilitation housing (SRH) in Mumbai, India. The project incorporates innovative void strategies, daylight autonomy, ventilation, and energy performance, coupled with a membrane-based heat pump system and a smart demand management system, resulting in a 60% increase in habitable area and a 35% improvement in daylight autonomy.

I want to now give you a quick update on some of the key events at your alma mater in May 2024, as well as share the latest highlights and achievements from our vibrant community.

 

But first, I am delighted to announce the upcoming Annual CSR Conclave, scheduled for June 14, 2024. The core theme is ‘Unlocking CSR for Impactful Research’ and the conclave underscores the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in advancing research initiatives and technological advancements. As alumni, your involvement and support are crucial in shaping the success of this event. I encourage you to mark your calendars and join us in exploring collaborative innovation’s transformative power in driving positive change and societal impact. I am pleased to announce that IIT Bombay has partnered with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)in pioneering India’s first Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager. Led by IITB faculty member, Dr. Kasturi Saha, this initiative aims to revolutionize semiconductor chip imaging, highlighting our commitment to innovation and societal impact through collaborative research. Our alumni continue to make us proud with their remarkable achievements. I am delighted to share that Major Radhika Sen received the 2023 UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award for her exemplary peacekeeping efforts. Mr. Rizwan Koita has been appointed Chairperson of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). Prof. Jindal Shah was honoured with the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award at Oklahoma State University. Additionally, our alumni and faculty won the BPCL Innovation Award for groundbreaking research in battery technologies.
