From the Dean's Desk April-2026

Dear Alumni,

As we move through another eventful period at the Institute, it is heartening to see the many ways in which our community, faculty, students, and alumni continue to shape innovation, research, and impact both in India and globally.

This spirit of innovation was reflected in a landmark achievement for the Institute’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. IIT Bombay marked a significant moment for India’s startup landscape as its faculty-led deep-tech venture SEDEMAC, incubated at SINE, went public through an IPO and became the second such success from the Institute’s startup ecosystem.

The Institute also joined global leaders at the inauguration of the India AI Impact Summit by the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, highlighting the Institute’s growing role in India’s technology and AI-driven future.

We also celebrated the Post Graduate Reunion 2026, where alumni returned to campus to reconnect with faculty, students, and their departments. During the gathering, Director Prof. Kedare called for India to move into the top two globally in key technology domains, while the introduction of Department Conclaves created new opportunities for alumni, faculty, and students to exchange ideas and strengthen academic connections.

At the Spring Session of the 64th Convocation, IIT Bombay conferred 430 degrees. The Institute marked its 67th Foundation Day on March 10, 2026, honouring distinguished faculty members and alumni and recognising excellence in teaching, research, and societal impact.

Continuing to build the infrastructure that enables innovation, the Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship (DSSE) team moved to the new DSSE building on campus.

Faculty-led innovation continues to thrive across the Institute as well. Prof. Kshitij Jadhav’s startup, Rad AI Pvt. Ltd., was recognised among India’s Top 10 AI & Cancer Startups at the IndiaAI–NCG Cancer AI & Technology Challenge (CATCH) during the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

As always, you’ll also find our regular features, including Centres of Excellence, Lecture Series, Research Spotlight, Faculty Accolades, Student Success Stories, other Institute News and Highlights, Upcoming Events, and more in this month’s newsletter.

I invite you to engage with a few initiatives that are shaping our community’s future. The Dean ACR Annual Report 2024–25 offers a snapshot of what we have accomplished together this past year. And as part of Giving Back, please consider contributing to our GO-IITB Scholarship and the Young Faculty Fellowship campaigns. Each of these efforts reflects the generosity and shared commitment that make our alumni network strong.

Finally, I also invite members of our alumni community to follow the Dean ACR LinkedIn page, where regular updates are shared on alumni engagement and activities taking place on campus.

As always, the strength of IIT Bombay lies in the enduring connection we share with our alumni community. Your continued engagement, support, and achievements worldwide remain integral to the Institute’s journey. We look forward to staying connected and to building many more milestones together.

Warmly,
