Golden Jubilee Reunion Class of 1973

IIT Bombay will celebrate the Golden Jubilee Reunion Class of 1973 (GJRU 1973) in December. IIT Bombay invites the class of 1973 to re-visit the campus and re-acquaint themselves with former batchmates and peers during the GJRU celebrations. It is a once-in-a-lifetime for alumni to return to their beloved alma mater after half a century and partner with the Institute on their cherished alma mater’s future direction.

Institute Valedictory Function (Valfi)

IIT Bombay will celebrate its annual Institute Valedictory Function (Valfi) in May. As always, the Institute will invite an extraordinary alumnus to be the Chief Guest for one of its most popular and significant events. Graduating students will take the “Give One for IIT Bombay” pledge and promise to contribute a percentage of their future earnings to their alma mater. Valfi is the last official Institute event for graduating students before they leave their cherished Institute to start a brand-new life.

IIT Bombay to Host Annual CSR in June

IIT Bombay will host the third edition of its annual CSR Conclave, in June 2024. This pivotal event will bring together industry leaders, scholars, and practitioners in corporate social responsibility from across the nation and beyond. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions, participate in workshops, and network with peers, all focused on the latest trends and innovations in CSR. The conclave aims to foster new ideas and collaborations that drive social change and sustainable business practices. Faculty Alumni Network & Distinguished Alumni Meeting (USA)

The next edition of the Faculty Alumni Network (FAN) and the Distinguished Alumni Meet (DA Meet) in 2024 will be held in the US at Stanford University, USA. The event will bring several of IITB’s highly accomplished alumni who are in leading positions in academia and industry in the US, together with the senior administration and faculty of IIT Bombay. They will deliberate on several strategic matters related to Institute growth as well as emerging areas of research, to nucleate collaborative programs for mutual impact, and to create opportunities and explore innovative ways to take IIT Bombay to greater heights.

PCACEC Course For Alumni

The Pramod Chaudhari Alumni Continuing Education Centre (PCACEC) is launching its 5th course for the year 2024 on Data Visualization, led by  Prof. Venkatesh Rajamanickam at the IDC School of Design.

PCACEC was established to provide discounted executive education and IITB certificate courses to IITB alumni at discounted prices for our alumni. These courses are meticulously designed to offer a platform where our alumni can stay abreast of the latest trends in technology, management, science, and policy studies, guided by our internationally acclaimed faculties. Moreover, they provide a unique opportunity for alumni from various batches, years, and departments to network and interact.

Course Details:

By the end of the Data Visualization course, participants will be proficient in understanding key techniques and theories used in visualization, including data models, graphical perception, and techniques for visual encoding. Additionally, participants will gain hands-on experience using visualization tools to transform quantitative information into visual representations.

Prof. N.R. Kamath Distinguished Lecture Series – Dr. Arun Dravid

IIT Bombay will host the latest lecture in the ‘Prof. N.R. Kamath Distinguished Institute Lecture’ series on campus. The series honours the leadership and contributions of Prof. N.R. Kamath, former Deputy Director, and founding head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay, to the Institute.

The speaker for the upcoming talk is IITB Distinguished Alumnus, Dr. Arun Dravid, Chairman, Emeritus, Jacobs Engineering India Ltd. Dr. Dravid has also served for three years as an external member of the IIT Senate and has taught as a visiting faculty in the past at IIT Bombay and ICT in Mumbai.

Dr. Dravid was awarded the President of India Gold Medal for ranking first amongst all branches of IITs at the B.Tech. Examination in 1966. He then got his MS and Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from MIT, USA, in 1968 and 1970 respectively.

Apart from his long career at the world-renowned Jacobs Engineering India Ltd., Dr. Dravid has pursued a parallel career as an accomplished vocalist of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. His early training (1955-1961) was under the tutelage of the late Ustad Abdul Majid Khan Saheb (a disciple of the late Ustad Alladiya Khan who was doyen of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana). Dr. Dravid’s advanced training (1961-1966), and later intermittently (1976-1999), was from Gaanasaraswati Smt. Kishori Amonkar, who is one of the most cherished vocalists of the Jaipur Gharana. He also received occasional training from Gaanatapaswini late Smt. Mogubai Kurdikar, mother and Guru of Smt. Kishori Amonkar. He played the role of the music guru Pandit Vinayak Pradhan in the 2020 film The Disciple.

Dr. Dravid will speak on ‘Science Of Musical Notes: Sur And Shrutis.’
