IIT Bombay is dedicated to nurturing educational and research excellence through valuable talks delivered by industry experts for its students and faculty. As part of this commitment, the Institute proudly announces the forthcoming Girish Sant Lecture Series, slated for February 28, 2024, from 4:00 PM- 5:00 PM at the Lecture Hall 22, Victor Menezes Convention Centre, on campus. Established through a legacy donation by the class of 1986, this series pays tribute to their late batchmate, Girish Sant, an esteemed energy analyst and energy policy commentator. His analytical contributions played a pivotal role in shaping India’s energy policy throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
The lecture will be presented by Mr. Anshuman Lath, co-founder of Gram Oorja Solutions Private Limited, which works with remote communities, addressing their electricity, drinking water, and cooking fuel needs. Mr. Lath brings extensive experience working with the SME sector, rural development organizations, and the finance sector. He holds a BE from IIT Roorkee and a PGDM from IIM Bangalore.
Mr. Lath will enlighten our students and faculty on the topic of ‘Remote Village Energy Access: Experience, Challenges and Possibilities
Speaker Bio: Mr. Anshuman is a co-founder of Gram Oorja Solutions Private Limited. Founded in 2008, Gram Oorja works with remote communities, solving their electricity, drinking water and cooking fuel needs. With over 750 community scale projects including over 100 solar mini-grids, Gram Oorja has now impacted over 1.5 lakh lives in remote parts of India. More about the company on www.gramoorja.in
This series has been established through the generous contributions of our alumna Ms. Radhika Rajan (M.Tech., Physics, 1977), Executive Vice President at DSP Investments.
The lecture will be presented by Ms. Premlata Poonia, Founder of Hamari Laado. Ms. Poonia’s journey from the remote village of Likhmewala to leading a billion-dollar business in the US, and finally returning to her roots to empower young girls through Hamari Laado, is nothing short of extraordinary. Her lecture will delve into the trajectories of her academic and professional career, illustrating how each step paved the way for her mission – “Change, one girl at a time!”
This talk deeply resonates with IIT Bombay’s commitment to empowering women in STEM fields and encouraging their pursuit of excellence.
