OBITUARY

In Loving Memory of Ms. Nina Kar: A Testament to Compassion and Community Spirit

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Nina Kar, the cherished wife of the late esteemed faculty member, Prof. Subir Kar, on December 23, 2023. As we navigate this moment of loss, our hearts extend to the Kar family, enveloping them in the warmth of our deepest condolences

Ms. Kar bequeathed her property (a flat in Powai) to IIT Bombay to set up the Prof. Subir Kar Chair Professorship in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Prof. Subir Kar was a very well-known researcher in fluid mechanics and was instrumental in setting up the Biomedical Engineering program at IIT Bombay. He was also an expert in Rabindra Sangeet. He expired in 2001.

Over the past few months, Ms. Kar’s act of generosity was matched by IIT Bombay’s extensive alumni community. During Ms. Kar's challenging medical journey, our alumni community rallied around in full force even as their compassion and generosity shone brightly.
