From the Dean's Desk July-2025

Dear Alumni,

Please accept my warm greetings from your alma mater!

As I share this final message with you as the Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations, I find myself reflecting on a chapter filled with learning, warmth, and deep connections. It has been a privilege to engage with our remarkable alumni community, and your support has been a constant source of inspiration throughout my tenure. I am delighted to welcome Prof. Upendra Bhandarkar as the new Dean ACR, and I am confident that with your continued support, he will take our shared mission even further.

While the office welcomes this new chapter of leadership, the Institute itself continues to achieve remarkable milestones on the global stage. IIT Bombay has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic and research excellence with outstanding results in the latest global and national rankings. In the QS World University Rankings 2026, the Institute has been ranked second in India and 129th worldwide. You can read more in the Legacy of Excellence section in the newsletter.

This month, we are delighted to share two Special Reports that capture the spirit of our alumni community overseas. The first is on FAN 2025 at Georgia Institute of Technology — an extraordinary gathering that brought together faculty, alumni, and industry leaders for deep discussions on research, technology, and entrepreneurship. The second highlights our vibrant alumni meets in North America, including memorable events in Boston, Toronto, and Chicago. These gatherings reflect the warmth, curiosity, and generosity of our global alumni family and remind us how strongly our graduates continue to shape and support IIT Bombay’s journey.

These recent gatherings reminded me once again of the extraordinary ways in which our alumni continue to make us proud around the world. In this edition’s Alumni Spotlight, we feature inspiring stories that reflect the diverse achievements and generous spirit of our community. First, we celebrate Mr. Atharvaa Tayade, a young alumnus whose passion for chess and leadership have taken him from the IIT Bombay campus to the global stage. We highlight Mr. Shankar Krishnamoorthy, a pioneering leader in the semiconductor industry and a steadfast supporter of IIT Bombay, whose recent philanthropic contribution is empowering future innovators and researchers on campus. We also feature Prof. Raaz Dwivedi, whose cutting-edge AI startup showcases how academic excellence can transform industries and drive real-world impact. Finally, Mr. Ashish Kumar Chauhan, Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd., was honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Outlook Business Spotlight – Enterprise and Leadership Awards 2025 in Bengaluru.

This edition also highlights the bold entrepreneurial spirit of our alumni, featuring inspiring stories from Cekura and Eeki. These startups are pushing boundaries in AI and sustainable agriculture, proving once again how our graduates continue to drive meaningful change across industries. You can learn more about their remarkable journeys in the Alumni Startup Spotlight section.

As we celebrate the achievements and generosity of our alumni, it is equally inspiring to see how strong industry partnerships continue to shape the Institute’s trajectory and impact. One such collaboration that stands out this month is our ongoing work with FedEx India. IIT Bombay and FedEx have deepened their partnership through the launch of the FedEx ALFA Centre and a dedicated student lounge, underscoring a shared vision to drive cutting-edge logistics research and create vibrant campus spaces. You can read more in the Corporate Collaboration section.

Building on this spirit of impactful partnerships, I am delighted to add that IIT Bombay researchers have also advanced national security through pioneering work on next-generation defence bunkers, detailed in the National Initiatives section.

Continuing this journey of national and global impact, the Centres of Excellence section highlights groundbreaking work from IIT Bombay’s TCA2I, which is driving innovation at the intersection of computing, AI, and cybersecurity.

As always, you’ll also find our regular features, including Research Spotlight, Faculty Accolades, Institute News and Highlights, Upcoming Events, and more in this month’s newsletter.

As I share this final message with you as Dean ACR, I find that the chance to engage with our remarkable alumni community has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey at IIT Bombay. I have drawn immense inspiration from your stories and your steady support of the Institute. Thank you for your trust and for walking alongside me all these years. I look forward to cheering on your successes and watching the IIT Bombay family grow even stronger under new leadership.

I welcome future opportunities to continue our conversations. So, please do stop by the campus when you can, and I would be delighted to share a cup of chai with you and hear about your ongoing endeavours.
