IIT Bombay’s Spoken Tutorial pedagogy has been approved as an IEEE global standard, making it India’s first edtech model to achieve such global recognition. It is helping students from tier-2 and tier-3 cities overcome traditional hiring barriers through digital skill assessments in local languages.

WiSE (Women in Science & Engineering from Rural Parts of India), an IIT Bombay initiative launched in 2023 by Prof. Rajesh Zele, aims to encourage 10th-grade girls from rural areas to pursue STEM, addressing the gender gap in higher education.
The 2025 edition welcomed 200 girls from 68 rural schools across Maharashtra and Karnataka, along with 25 women teachers. Supported by over 70 volunteers and funded by the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and IIT Bombay, this year’s programme showcased the power of collective effort and mentorship.

Afternoons featured hands-on BMP (Break-Make-Program) sessions using aiCAS Lab kits, where participants built electronic circuits, FM radios, sensor systems, and Crab Rover robots. Additional demonstrations included bacterial art, robotic arms, and AUVs developed at IIT Bombay.
At the closing Thanksgiving event, the girls showcased vibrant performances. Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, IEEE Board Member Dr. Rajiv Joshi, and Prof. Zele addressed and inspired attendees. Commissioner T. Gopalakrishna (JNV) and Mr. Ravi Lad (EMRS) were also felicitated during the event.

Graduates of India’s first and only joint Executive MBA degree programme, offered by IIT Bombay and Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), came together in St. Louis, USA, for their convocation. In a glittering ceremony, 45 graduates received their EMBA degrees. Designed for working professionals and entrepreneurs, the EMBA programme equips leaders to navigate change and drive strategic transformation in a rapidly evolving world.
Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Dean ACR, attended the convocation ceremony and wished the newest cohort of EMBA graduates the very best for the future.
Prof. Kedare and Prof. Gudi also met with Dean Michael Mazzeo and the leadership team at WashU, and explored impactful collaborations and future opportunities, reinforcing the shared commitment of both world-class institutions to advance research, innovation, and academic exchange.
The visit also included a special evening marking the last teaching day of the EMBA Batch, graciously hosted by Dean Mazzeo at his home. In a significant step towards strengthening India’s self-reliance in aerial systems, the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) Foundation at IIT Bombay has made a strategic investment in Airbots Aerospace—an emerging leader in agri-drone and unmanned aerial systems. This partnership combines IIT Bombay’s cutting-edge research capabilities with Airbots’ entrepreneurial drive to advance AI-powered drone platforms and integrated solutions across agriculture, infrastructure, and defense.
With multiple patents, DGCA certification, and a growing portfolio of precision agriculture contracts, Airbots is well-positioned to scale. IIT Bombay is at the forefront of India’s ambitious effort to decarbonise the cement industry. As one of five national Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) testbeds announced by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Institute is partnering with Dalmia Cement to develop a catalyst-driven CO₂ capture process, installed directly at a cement plant. This initiative is part of a pioneering Public-Private Partnership model aimed at deploying real-world, scalable solutions in hard-to-abate sectors.

Efficiency Apartments
The Institute recently celebrated the ground-breaking of its new Efficiency Apartments project—an ambitious housing initiative designed to support both faculty and research scholars. Once completed, the development will offer 120 two-bedroom flats for faculty members (Wing A) and 309 single-room units for married research scholars (Wing B), with a total built-up area of 46,700 square metres. Located behind the QIP Quarters, near the Udaygiri Building on Hillside, this project was envisioned by the Dean IPS office and is a step towards enhancing residential facilities for IIT Bombay’s vibrant academic community.
