IIT Bombay has once again reaffirmed its status as the country’s most preferred institute among JEE Advanced toppers in 2025. The first round of JoSAA seat allotment data showcases this overwhelming preference, especially from the highest-ranking candidates.

Key highlights:

  • 78 of the top 100 rankers chose IIT Bombay.
  • 9 out of the top 10 rankers opted for IIT Bombay; one selected MIT.
  • 185 of the top 500 and 258 of the top 1,000 rankers were allotted seats at IIT Bombay.

Building Infrastructure at IIT Bombay: Creating Spaces That Support Excellence

IIT Bombay continues to invest in infrastructure that not only meets the growing needs of its academic community but also reflects the Institute’s vision for a more connected, inclusive, and future-ready campus.

Efficiency Apartments

The Institute recently celebrated the ground-breaking of its new Efficiency Apartments project—an ambitious housing initiative designed to support both faculty and research scholars. Once completed, the development will offer 120 two-bedroom flats for faculty members (Wing A) and 309 single-room units for married research scholars (Wing B), with a total built-up area of 46,700 square metres. Located behind the QIP Quarters, near the Udaygiri Building on Hillside, this project was envisioned by the Dean IPS office and is a step towards enhancing residential facilities for IIT Bombay’s vibrant academic community.

New Recruitment & Promotion Unit Office

In another infrastructure milestone, IIT Bombay inaugurated the newly renovated office of its Recruitment & Promotion Unit. The new space is expected to streamline and strengthen institutional processes related to faculty and staff hiring and career advancement.

The inauguration was led by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay. Other dignitaries who joined him include:

IIT Bombay Hosts Chemistry Camp for Blind Students

IIT Bombay recently held the 75th Yusuf Hamied Chemistry Camp for 59 visually impaired students from government schools across four districts: Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Solapur.

As a step towards inclusive science education, the camp was supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and funded by a generous donation from Dr. Yusuf Hamied. The camp provided a first-of-its-kind, hands-on opportunity for blind students to explore the wonders of chemistry through the senses of touch and smell.

This year’s camp featured a brand-new module developed by Prof. C. Subramanian of IIT Bombay, which was developed under the strategic leadership of Dr. Swetavalli Raghavan, Head of Innovation Strategy and Government Affairs at the RSC.

The initiative marks a meaningful step towards making science accessible, inclusive, and is truly inspiring for all.

Legendary Australian cricketer and Centre for Australia-India Relations (CAIR) Board Member Mr. Steve Waugh visited IIT Bombay along with senior CAIR representatives, including CEO Mr. Tim Thomas and Consul General Mr. Paul Murphy.
