IIT Bombay Hosts High-level Delegation from TU Graz, Austria

IIT Bombay hosted a high-level delegation from TU Graz, Austria, to explore avenues for deeper academic and research collaboration. The delegation included Prof. Horst Bischof, Rector; Prof. Stefan Vorbach, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs; senior faculty leaders in information security, microwave and photonic engineering, and members of the International Office. They were welcomed by several Institute dignitaries, including Prof. Shireesh B. Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay.

IIT Bombay Hosts Translational Research SATU Network Meeting 2025

IIT Bombay successfully hosted the Translational Research SATU Network Meeting. The Institute is the Chair University of the South and Southeast Asia and Taiwan Universities (SATU) Presidents’ Forum, and the network meeting brought together 41 delegates from 22 universities across 9 countries to strengthen regional collaboration in innovation, entrepreneurship, and translational research.

IIT Bombay Hosts International Conference on the Role of IPR (Intellectual Property Rights)

IIT Bombay successfully hosted a three-day International Conference on the “Role of IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) in Promoting Indigenous Knowledge System (IKS) and Viksit Bharat” on campus. The conference brought together leading experts from industry, academia, policymakers, practitioners, innovators, and representatives of indigenous communities to discuss the role of IPR in safeguarding and leveraging indigenous knowledge for the nation’s development.

Alumination 2025

An Aureate Ascent was the theme of this year’s Alumination 2025, which was a radiant celebration of guidance, growth, and gratitude. Hosted annually by the Student Alumni Relations Cell (SARC), over 100 alumni and 1,000-plus inspired students participated in this year’s event.

Key highlights included:

  • Beyond the Horizon featured acclaimed filmmaker Mr. Nitesh Tiwari and music artist Mr. Kavish Seth.
  • Dean ki Adalat saw Prof. Suryanarayana Doolla and Prof. Upendra Bhandarkar engaging in an open, insightful dialogue.
  • Un-Engineering featured visionary leaders, Mr. Michael Patra and Mr. Ashank Desai.
  • Start It Up brought together celebrated innovators Mr. Rajeev Agrawal, Mr. Ankit Mehta, and Mr. Jaideep Poonia.

IIT Bombay’s Swimming Coach Wins Bronze in the National Swimming Championship

IIT Bombay’s swimming coach, Mr. Ritesh Gucchait, bagged 4 Bronze medals while representing Maharashtra at the 21st National Masters Swimming Championship 2025, organised by the Telangana Swimming Association, Swimming Federation of India. Previously, he had won 4 golds during the State championships held in Pune.

IIT Bombay Hosts Alumni Reunions

Ruby Jubilee Reunion – Class of 1985

The Ruby Reunion of the Class of 1985 brought alumni together to reconnect with one another, revisit the campus, and reflect on their shared journey since graduating from the Institute. The gathering highlighted the enduring bond between the alumni and IIT Bombay, marking a significant milestone in the life of the Class of 1985.

Fun fact that made it even more special: Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, and Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Deputy Director, are both from the Class of 1985, adding a rare and proud distinction to the celebration.

45th Reunion – Class of 1980

The Class of 1980 returned to their IIT Bombay campus for their 45th year reunion with families, memories, and a shared sense of connection to their alma mater. The batch pledged support to SemiX, IIT Bombay’s Centre for Semiconductor Technologies. Their contribution will support the purchase of critical fabrication equipment at the Nano Fabrication facility, strengthening research capabilities at IIT Bombay and benefiting users across the country. This collective gesture reflects the batch’s continued commitment to supporting research and future-ready initiatives at the Institute.

IIT Bombay Hosts Mr. Rajesh Agarwal, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra (GoM)

IIT Bombay hosted Mr. Rajesh Agarwal, the Honourable Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra (GoM), along with his delegation comprising several senior dignitaries from the state government. Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, accompanied by the Institute’s senior leadership welcome the delegation. During the visit, Mr. Agarwal toured the Centre for Semiconductor Technologies (SemiX). SINE, and the IIT Bombay Research Park, where he engaged with faculty and staff on strategic AI initiatives. His team also interacted with the BharatGen team.

IIT Bombay Confers the Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Awards (DAA) and the Young Alumnus/Alumna Achiever Awards (YAAA) 2026 on Foundation Day

During IIT Bombay’s Foundation Day celebrations, the Institute recognised select alumni who have excelled in their respective fields and made the Institute proud through their remarkable achievements.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) honours alumni for their outstanding contributions to their profession, society, and the global community.

IIT Bombay Celebrates the 77th Republic Day of India

IIT Bombay celebrated the country’s 77th Republic Day on campus. The day began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, at the Institute’s Gymkhana ground. He also addressed the gathering, felicitated the former Deputy Director and distinguished academician Prof. Juzer Vasi, and IIT Bombay alumnus Mr. Shashi Shekhar Vempati, on being conferred the Padma Shri – the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India. IITB Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Raj Nair (B.Tech., Metallurgical Engineering, 1971) was the Chief Guest at the occasion. More than 2000 members of the campus community attended the function.

IITB’s E-Summit Hosts Several Industry Leaders

The 21st edition of IIT Bombay’s annual E-Summit: Deciphering the Labyrinth (Asia’s largest business conclave) made history as it ignited groundbreaking ideas and visionary solutions. With over 50,000 attendees, 1,000+ startups associated with the summit, and 30+ events scheduled over 2 days, the summit included several favourites, including The Ten Minute Million, Startup Expo, Global Entrepreneurship Conclave, Content Creation Conclave, and many more. From entrepreneurs to motivational speakers, content creators to media professionals, this year’s summit hosted many accomplished personalities.

IIT Bombay was delighted to welcome several industry titans, including:

Mr. Benedetto Vigna (CEO, Ferrari)

Mr. Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, joined E-Summit, and the session was defined by leadership, precision, and building an iconic global brand.

Ms. Nandita Sinha (CEO, Myntra)

Ms. Nandita Sinha, CEO, Myntra, visited the campus and met with Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (ART), and Prof. Dr. Ramesh Kuruva from the Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship (DSSE). Ms. Sinha also interacted with students, engaging in an open discussion on innovation, entrepreneurship, and building organisations in the digital economy.

Mr. Anil Agarwal (Chairman, Vedanta Group)

The Chairman of the Vedanta Group, Mr. Anil Agarwal, shared candid lessons on courage, resilience, and relentless persistence to build a business. He elaborated on how entrepreneurial instinct and humility beat any setback, AI becoming the future generation’s greatest advisor, and why manufacturing will anchor India’s new growth phase. And in his trademark honesty, he reminded young founders, “Sapne bade dekho, par hausla usse bhi bada rakho.”

Dr. Arokiaswamy Velumani (Founder of Thyrocare Technologies Ltd.) 

Dr. Arokiaswamy Velumani inspired the audience with his journey of resilience, clarity, and bold entrepreneurial belief. It was a standout session that added unstoppable energy to the 21st E-Summit.

IIT Bombay and the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan, Join Hands for Virtual Research Centre

IIT Bombay has signed an MoU with the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan, to establish a Joint Virtual Research Centre dedicated to strengthening collaborative research in advanced materials. The Centre will provide a robust platform for faculty members and researchers from both institutions to engage in cutting-edge research in the fields of Materials Science, exchange scientific expertise, and build long-term collaborative partnerships.

IIT Bombay and Washington University in St. Louis Launch 11th Cohort of Joint Executive MBA Programme

IIT Bombay, in collaboration with Washington University in St. Louis, launched the 11th cohort of the Joint Degree Executive MBA (EMBA) Program at the IIT Bombay campus. This marked another milestone in the long-standing academic partnership between the two globally reputed institutions. The 11th cohort comprises senior executives, entrepreneurs, and functional leaders from a wide range of industries, including technology, manufacturing, finance, consulting, healthcare, energy, and consumer businesses. The cohort brings an average professional experience of 17 years, reflecting the programme’s relevance for experienced leaders.

IIT Bombay Signs MoU with Columbia University to Set Up a Centre of AI for Manufacturing

IIT Bombay and Columbia University, USA, signed an MoU in the presence of the Honourable Minister of Education, Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan, to establish a Centre of AI for Manufacturing. The Ministry of Education has initiated four different AI centres so far. The “Columbia–IIT Bombay Centre of AI for Manufacturing” is a joint research and translation Centre aimed at building robust, scalable, and human-centric AI systems for real-world manufacturing.
