IIT Bombay signed three MoUs with the Government of Maharashtra during the India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025), to establish:
– R&D infrastructure for Ship Design and Ship Building at IIT Bombay. – Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Bombay for Capacity Building and training of manpower for Ship Design and Ship Building (SDB) industry in India. – e-Postgraduate Diploma (e-PGD) programme for Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) Engineers.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Shri Devendra Fadnavis, the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and several dignitaries. Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, and other key functionaries represented the Institute.

IIT Bombay recently inaugurated its Liquid Helium Plant, a landmark facility made possible through the Institute of Eminence (IoE) initiative, supporting cutting-edge research in cryogenic engineering, superconductivity, quantum computing and sensing, photonics, healthcare, space exploration, green energy, and superconducting devices.
The Institute was delighted to welcome the Honourable Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, who dedicated the facility to the nation. The facility will reduce dependence on foreign helium sources, lower the cost of cryogenic experiments to one-tenth current levels, and substantially support the expanding research portfolio in the domains mentioned above. The facility is now open to industry, academia, and R&D institutions.

Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation), inaugurated the Ion Chromatography – Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (IC-ICPMS) facility at the Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF) on campus. The facility, worth Rs. 1.60 crore, was funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India.

IIT Bombay hosted a review meeting for the BharatInnovates 2026 initiative on campus. Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Education, led the meeting, while Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation), Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Deputy Director (Finance, Infrastructure and Administration), and others represented IIT Bombay. BharatInnovates 2026 is designed to provide a global platform to deep-tech innovations being nurtured at Higher Education Institutions and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes in the country.

Mehta School of Management. In an effort to expand and strengthen academic ties and research partnerships with Austrian technical universities via the Austrian Government’s Focus India Initiative, a team from IIT Bombay, led by Prof. Sudarshan Kumar (Dean, International Relations), travelled to Austria. The team visited three leading technical universities in the country, including Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL), TU Graz, and TU Wien.

Dr. Abhay Karandikar Inaugurates India DST – ANR Workshop
Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology, inaugurated the India DST – ANR Workshop on Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Bombay, alongside Dr. Honorata Plewinska of the French National Research Agency. The workshop brought together leading experts from India and France to explore collaborative opportunities in AI and applied mathematics, strengthening the long-standing Indo-French partnership in science and technology.

IIT Bombay Welcomes Indian Army’s Wheels of Valour
NCC, IIT Bombay, welcomed the Indian Army’s motorcycle expedition “Wheels of Valour” to its campus. This first-of-its-kind event showcased the strong bond between the Indian Armed Forces and IIT Bombay.

Mental Health Week
IIT Bombay’s Student Wellness Centre (SWC) celebrated Mental Health Week on campus to promote well-being, mindfulness, and community connection among students. Over 600 students participated in the week-long initiative that featured several activities combining relaxation, introspection, and creativity. The activities encouraged self-expression and collective healing while creating a safe, stigma-free space for open conversations around mental health.
The Institute commemorated the 150th birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, by celebrating Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

IIT Bombay staff undertook a pledge to promote integrity in public life and achieve a corruption-free society. The Chief Vigilance Officer, Prof. K.G. Suresh, briefed the attendees about the importance of the eradication of corruption.

During his visit to IIT Bombay, the Honourable Union Minister for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, announced the establishment of a Rs. 720 crore “Quantum Fabrication & Central Facilities” under the ‘National Quantum Mission’. The two major state-of-the-art Quantum Fabrication and Central Facilities are to be set up at IIT Bombay and IISc Bengaluru. They will indigenise the fabrication of quantum computing chips and quantum sensors, thereby accelerating their development in India. During his visit, Dr. Singh highlighted that these advanced fabrication and characterization facilities will benefit academia, industry, start-ups, and strategic sectors, and enable the development of indigenous quantum devices and build a skilled workforce in quantum hardware.
IIT Bombay held a series of Alumni Meets in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune during November and December 2025. Institute leadership, including Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay; Prof. Upendra Bhandarkar, Dean ACR, and more, spearheaded these meets and guided discussions on current priorities and future directions of the Institute. The meets also brought together several of IITB’s alumni in each city, members of the IITB Alumni Association, including local chapter heads who shared meaningful updates on local initiatives, and prominent industry leaders for meaningful engagement. These events collectively strengthened the Institute’s alumni network and highlighted the vibrant participation of our community across regions.

Hailing a new chapter in student living at IIT Bombay, Dr. K Radhakrishnan, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Bombay, inaugurated Hostel 19 (H19) on campus. H19 is designed to accommodate 1,051 students in a thoughtfully planned environment that promotes personal comfort, social interaction, and sustainability. The G+9 structure, with a total built-up area of 3 Lakh square feet, follows a courtyard-style layout to maximize natural light, ventilation, and community engagement. Each room is ergonomically designed with a bed, study area, and wardrobe. The lower and upper ground floors house most of the common facilities, while the roof of the dining block serves as a recreational terrace for student activities.
