Minister of State Dr. Sukanta Majumdar Engages with IIT Bombay’s Emerging Technologies

Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India, visited IIT Bombay, where he was welcomed by Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation).

Prof. Makarand Kulkarni, Professor-in-Charge of the Centre for Defence Technology Innovations and Strategies (CDTIS), briefed Dr. Majumdar on this new initiative. He highlighted its research verticals, aligned with the deep tech needs of the armed forces, and its educational programmes explicitly connecting these needs with defence manufacturing.

This was followed by a presentation by Prof. Swaroop Ganguly on SemiX, the Centre for Semiconductor Technologies, at IIT Bombay. Prof. Ganguly briefed the Minister on the upcoming state-of-the-art semiconductor ‘fab lab’ infrastructure and the development of the Semiconductor Ecosystem Talent (DevSET) national roadmap for semiconductor research and education, being coordinated by IIT Bombay along with academic and industry partners pan-India.

Dr. Majumdar appreciated the efforts being taken by IIT Bombay and wished the functionaries all the best.

The visit reaffirmed IIT Bombay’s commitment to advancing deep tech research, fostering industry-academia collaborations, and contributing to national priorities in defence and semiconductor technologies.
