IIT Bombay celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi and the birth anniversary of India’s cherished former Prime Minister of India, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on campus.
In a heartfelt tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji, and Shastriji on their birth anniversaries, IIT Bombay organized a prize distribution ceremony for Swachhata Pakhwada 2024, alongside a cultural program titled Swaranjali. During the ceremony, appreciation certificates were awarded to students from the Campus School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and IIT Bombay for their participation in various competitions held throughout the initiative.
Prof. K.P. Kaliappan, Dean, Strategy, represented the Institute Cleanliness Assessment Committee, and announced the top three departments recognized for their outstanding commitment to cleanliness:
- Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR)
- Aerospace Engineering
- Civil Engineering
Furthering the spirit of cleanliness and environmental sustainability, Abhyuday, IIT Bombay, successfully organized a Powai Lake Cleanup Drive in honour of Gandhi Jayanti. Over 150 dedicated volunteers came together to remove two tonnes of waste along a 2km stretch of the lake. This collaborative effort highlighted the community’s commitment to making a tangible difference in the environment.
The above initiatives not only honour the legacies of Gandhiji and Shastriji but also reflect IIT Bombay’s commitment to fostering a culture of cleanliness and environmental stewardship among its community. By engaging students, faculty, and volunteers in meaningful activities, the Institute continues to reinforce the importance of collective responsibility towards sustainability. Such efforts serve as a reminder that every action, no matter how small, contributes to a larger movement for positive change. As IIT Bombay continues to inspire its members to actively participate in the betterment of society, the shared vision of a cleaner and greener future remains a vital part of the Institute’s ethos.
