Celebrating International Women’s Day at IIT Bombay: Embracing Strength and Progress

IIT Bombay celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024, on campus.

IITB’s Gender Cell had the honour of hosting acclaimed actor Ms. Ratna Pathak Shah on the occasion. Renowned for her iconic portrayal of Maya Sarabhai, a character challenging societal norms, Ms. Shah has consistently championed strong and multifaceted portrayals of women on screen. Her latest film “Dhak Dhak” further exemplifies this commitment to breaking stereotypes.

Joined by Prof. Mazhar Kamran (IDC) and Prof. Mukta Tripathi (Chemical Engineering), Ms. Shah shared insightful reflections on societal norms, gender roles, and the evolving portrayal of women in film and theatre.

With engaging dialogue and Ms. Shah’s charismatic responses, the session resonated with the audience, igniting conversations about female empowerment and the importance of investing in women. Following the enriching discussion, the program recognized the dedication of women employees and celebrated the achievements of IIT’s sports contingent, emphasizing the significance of women’s contributions across domains.
