SINE-Incubated SEDEMAC Mechatronics Achieves $1 Billion Market Capitalisation

SEDEMAC Mechatronics Pvt. Ltd., incubated at SINE in 2008 and founded on research undertaken by Prof. Shashikanth Suryanarayanan and his students at IIT Bombay, achieved a monumental milestone with its market capitalisation closing above $1 Billion, the first such milestone in its journey as a listed company. SEDEMAC represents a distinctive example of faculty-led deep-tech entrepreneurship emerging from the IIT Bombay academic ecosystem, and its evolution from laboratory research to a publicly listed company highlights how the Institute has helped shape pathways for research-driven startups in India.

IIT Bombay and ISRO Advance Semi-Cryogenic Engine Research

Researchers at IIT Bombay, in collaboration with the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), have successfully concluded a major project aimed at improving semi-cryogenic rocket engine technology for future launch vehicles. The team developed an innovative optical technique called Rainbow Schlieren Deflectometry (RSD) to study complex liquid-vapour interactions in cryogenic environments without disturbing the flow, which is a critical breakthrough for enhancing the reliability and efficiency of cryogenic propulsion systems. The project was led by Prof. Atul Srivastava and Prof. Milind Atrey from IIT Bombay, alongside scientists Dr. Deepak Agrawal and Anant Singhal from LPSC.

IIT Bombay Partners with Indian Air Force (IAF) for Predictive Maintenance for Aircrafts

IIT Bombay signed three contracts with the IAF towards the adoption of predictive maintenance for its Su-30 MKI aircraft. This collaboration is in line with the country’s Aatmanirbhar movement. The pathbreaking technology will use advanced technology for prognostic and prescriptive maintenance, which will be developed using fully indigenous know-how evolved at IIT Bombay. This paradigm shift will strengthen IAF’s operational readiness, deepen technical self-reliance, and accelerate the march of Indian aerospace technology towards the frontiers of predictive, data-driven engineering.
