“Testimonial: We had over 200 people attend our silver jubilee reunion. Several returned to campus for the first time since they graduated. The event brought together long-lost batchmates and reconnected us to IITB. We are proud that the '94 legacy funds strengthen IITB by supporting student fellowships and advanced research.“

Rajeshkumar (Raj) Bhatt

1994, Aerospace Engineering

“Being involved in our legacy project allowed me to catch up with many batch-mates even before the reunion. Seeing the initiatives that we funded bring real impact to our alma mater was most fulfilling (e.g., GROWTH India Telescope, Laptops for online learning during COVID). As an alumnus, please reflect on the role that IITB has had in shaping your success and donate accordingly.“

Pankaj Doshi

1994, Chemical Engineering

“1994 batch’s silver jubilee reunion and involvement in legacy project was almost like my second homecoming to IIT Bombay. It was an incredible experience to interact with many friends after almost two decades. It is hard to overemphasize the role played by legacy projects and alumni engagement in shaping the destiny of this great institution. “

Project

This initiative was launched to secure the campus by vaccinating all campus residents.

IIT Bombay required funds to support staff members for COVID-19 vaccines. The Class of 1994 responded swiftly, funding the vaccination of over 200 staff members during a critical time.

Project

In response to the urgent need during the shift to online learning, the Class of 1994 reallocated funds to provide IT Hardware Scholarships, enabling financially constrained students to continue their education seamlessly.

During the pandemic-induced transition to online learning, students required access to laptops and internet connectivity to participate in academic activities. Many faced financial hardship and couldn’t afford essential hardware.

The Class of 1994, though this initiative wasn’t part of their original legacy plan, stepped in and reallocated resources to address this urgent need. Several undergraduate and postgraduate students received IT Hardware Scholarships, which included a laptop and broadband access. This ensured continuity in education through online classes, virtual projects, and coursework.

Project

The Class of 1994 supported IIT Bombay’s continued access to the Growth India Telescope, enabling ongoing interdisciplinary research on dynamic cosmic phenomena.

This project enables real-time studies of rapidly changing cosmic sources, including gravitational wave events, young supernovae, and near-Earth asteroids.

The Growth India Telescope, based in Ladakh and developed in partnership with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, is among the few such facilities outside Europe and the United States. It facilitates important interdisciplinary research across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Faced with the need to maintain access, the Class of 1994 allocated part of their Silver Jubilee Legacy funds to ensure sustained collaboration and research advancement. A milestone includes the observation of a near-Earth asteroid that narrowly missed Earth.

Project

As part of Project Evergreen, six rooms within the new hostel complex are being dedicated to student well-being.

In the upcoming hostel complex under Project Evergreen, a dedicated wing will include multi-purpose wellness rooms. These spaces are designed to support various aspects of student wellness, such as accommodation for visiting family members, counseling sessions, and group activities like yoga or meditation.

By integrating wellness infrastructure directly into student residences, the Class of 1994 is fostering a more supportive and health-conscious environment.

Few initiatives in IIT Bombay’s history have reflected the power of alumni collaboration quite like Project Evergreen—a landmark effort bringing together vision, generosity, and a deep commitment to the student experience. This alumni-led, alumni-built, and alumni-delivered world-class hostel complex, supported by corporates and well-wishers, provides students with modern living spaces that enhance their campus experience. Three state-of-the-art hostels, H7, H8, and H21 (a dedicated women’s hostel), now add 848 hostel rooms with 1127 beds. Operational since July 2025, the hostels are home to students who are living, learning, debating, dreaming, and forming friendships that will last a lifetime.
