IITB Alumnus, Mr. Giridharan Iyengar, Establishes Chair Professorship in Sustainability and Environmental Restoration

IIT Bombay is deeply grateful to its alumnus, Mr. Giridharan Iyengar (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 1990), for establishing the Mr. and Mrs. Annaswamy Ranganathan Chair Professorship at the Institute in Sustainability and Environmental Restoration. By setting up this Chair, Mr. Iyengar’s commitment to the Institute extends beyond supporting individual student journeys to enabling transformative research and academic leadership in an area of critical global importance.

Environmental challenges rarely sit within the boundaries of a single discipline. The Chair will bring together science, engineering, technology and interdisciplinary approaches to work on these challenges, while creating scope for new initiatives, international collaboration and high-impact research. The Chair will also focus on solutions that can make systems more resilient and resource-efficient, and ultimately support a more regenerative approach to the environment. In doing so, it will create a platform for academic leadership and research in a field that will increasingly shape how we respond to environmental pressures.

For Mr. Iyengar, establishing the Mr. and Mrs. Annaswamy Ranganathan Chair Professorship builds on a longstanding commitment to creating opportunities at his alma mater. It carries that commitment into research and academic leadership, opening up possibilities for the Institute to contribute to the search for a more sustainable future.
