IIT Bombay held its 64th Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF), where a total of 3333 degrees were awarded to 3042 students. The Institute also awarded 620 PhD degrees, not only its highest ever but also the highest across any IIT during the academic year 2025-2026.
Prof. Umesh Waghmare, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.


The Institute also felicitated two esteemed alumni who were conferred the Padma Shri awards earlier this year.
Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, felicitated Prof. Juzer Vasi, Professor Emeritus and former Deputy Director of IIT Bombay, for his hugely impactful contributions in advancing science and technology in general, and the semiconductor area in particular. He also felicitated Mr. Shashi Shekhar Vempati, Chairperson, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), who was recognised for his contributions to media, technology and public policy in general, and for furthering the AI and deep-tech areas in particular.
As part of the 64th Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF), the Institute also held the Medal Distribution Ceremony for students. These included the President of India Medal, the Institute Gold Medal, the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, the Sharad Maloo Gold Medal and the G. H. Raisoni Excellence Gold Medal. Additionally, the Naik and Rastogi Excellence in PhD Research Awards 2024–2026 were presented to 50 students, while 44 students received Institute Silver Medals in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
