64th Foundation Day

The Faculty Alumni Network (FAN) and the Distinguished Alumni Meet (DAM) will bring together inspiring individuals pursuing cutting-edge research in emerging areas of technology. They will deliberate on emerging areas of research, nucleate collaborative programs for impact, create opportunities, and explore innovative ways to take IIT Bombay to greater heights.
IIT Bombay alumnus, Mr. Ram Kelkar, will deliver the Shashwat Panda Memorial Lecture titled, “A career is a journey – not a destination: Vignettes of IITian career paths.”
Mr. Kelkar will talk about the skills that matter in the long term and draw parallels to the many unique and impactful career paths blazed by various IIT Bombay alumni including a “Right to Information” activist, a Supreme Court advocate, a politician and national leader, the father of mass market GPS, a mountaineer and author, a Central Banker and an Entrepreneur. He will also share learnings from his own career experiences in moving from Silicon Valley to Wall Street, building on the skills and knowledge he gained at IIT Bombay.

After the Australia trip, the team will travel to Singapore and meet with IITB alumni settled in Garden City.

IIT Bombay will officially inaugurate the Centre for Machine Intelligence & Data Science (C-MInDS) and host the second edition of the AI.Impact Worksop on campus. AI.Impact 2023 will also feature talks and discussions on AI in Engineering, Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, and Multi-agent AI.
IIT Bombay will celebrate its annual Institute Valedictory Function (Valfi) in April. As always, the Institute invites an extraordinary and inspiring alumnus to be the Chief Guest for one of its most popular and significant events. This year, IITB alumnus, Mr. Lalit Kanodia (B.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 1963) and chairman of the Datamatics Group of Companies will grace the occasion as the keynote speaker. The Institute is honoured to hear him speak even as the graduating students will take away many of life’s key lessons from his extraordinary professional journey and impactful personal experiences.
Ranked first in India and 47th globally [Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject for 2023] in Engineering and Technology, IIT Bombay is committed to developing technologies that will contribute to nation-building. The academic programs and research initiatives of IIT Bombay are focused on fuelling areas of strategic national importance such as defence applications, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity; driving economic development through the growth of critical industries such as semiconductors, green energy, electric vehicles, drugs, and pharmaceuticals and creating last-mile impact through technologies in SDG-aligned sectors such as healthcare, sanitation, clean water, and education technologies.
IIT Bombay is keen to partner with Corporates that are committed to making a difference through their CSR efforts. The partnerships will fuel national priorities and help the country leverage technology towards achieving self-reliance and elevating its economic standards.
The second edition of IIT Bombay’s Annual CSR Conclave 2023, to be held on June 16, 2023, on campus, will be based on the theme “Technology for Development,” towards addressing social, economic, industrial, and environmental challenges in India. This event will provide a platform for meaningful corporate engagement and collaboration with the Institute through the route of CSR funding.
The critical role that technology plays in solving social, economic, and environmental challenges will be highlighted through three panel discussions. Aligned with the three themes of the Annual CSR Conclave 2023, the deliberations will see participation by industry experts, CSR and corporate heads, and academicians.
IIT Bombay continues to play a defining role in technology development and self-reliance in areas of strategic national importance such as semiconductors quantum technologies, digital trust, and advanced materials.
Panel Discussion 2: Technology Leading to Industrial and Economic Development
With a focus on sectors such as Clean Energy, Electric Vehicles, Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, and Chemicals, IIT Bombay is committed to playing a defining role in technology-led industrial growth in India, contributing to job creation and overall development.
Panel Discussion 3: Technologies for Last-Mile Impact
The Centers of Excellence and labs of the Institute have already deployed technologies for last-mile impact in areas aligned with Sustainable Development Goals such as healthcare, sanitation, water, and ed tech.
Technology Showcase
The conclave will host a “Tech Showcase” comprising two segments- project presentations and an exhibition. Professors and students will demonstrate the use of technology for addressing critical issues such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. The exhibition will provide corporate and CSR leaders with an opportunity to interact with the students and professors involved in the technology initiatives.
CSR Awards Ceremony
The conclave will also host an exclusive award ceremony, recognising and honouring corporates who have made significant CSR contributions to IIT Bombay and collaborated with the Institute on high-impact initiatives.
