Through his contribution, IIT Bombay has established the Prof. G.K. Hebalkar Advanced Applied Mathematics Program, an initiative dedicated to advancing mathematics as a powerful tool for addressing some of the most complex challenges facing technology, society, and the economy. The programme honours the legacy of his father, Prof. G.K. Hebalkar, a distinguished mathematician and educator.

At the core of the programme are Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowships that will enable outstanding researchers to pursue interdisciplinary mathematical research at the frontiers of knowledge, nurturing the next generation of scholars and innovators.

The Prof. G.K. Hebalkar Mathematics Lab will serve as a key pillar of the programme, providing an environment where ideas can move from theory to real-world application. By fostering interdisciplinary research and collaboration across institutions, the initiative seeks to position mathematics at the heart of solving pressing contemporary challenges and driving meaningful impact across domains.
