2 – IIT Bombay and iVP Semi Join Forces to Advance Power Semiconductor Innovation

IIT Bombay has joined forces with IIT Bhubaneswar and iVP Semi in a groundbreaking initiative to advance power semiconductor technology in India. Through a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the collaboration will focus on designing and developing high-performance silicon power Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistors (MOSFETs) for electric vehicles and other critical applications. This initiative underscores IIT Bombay’s pivotal role in driving cutting-edge semiconductor research and development.
With its semiconductor research hub, the Centre for Semiconductor Technologies (SemiX), IIT Bombay will contribute deep technical expertise in power device design, characterization, and optimization. Partnering with IIT Bhubaneswar’s academic excellence and iVP Semi’s industry-leading experience, this collaboration is set to deliver custom power solutions for industries such as automotive, renewable energy, and industrial automation.
Highlighting the significance of this partnership, Prof. Sachin Patwardhan, Dean R&D, IIT Bombay, noted that the initiative strengthens India’s capabilities in power semiconductor technology. “IIT Bombay, through its semiconductor centre, SemiX, is pleased to collaborate with iVP Semi and IIT Bhubaneswar to drive the development of power semiconductor solutions in India,” he said.
The partnership also marks a critical step forward in building India’s semiconductor ecosystem, bringing together academic ingenuity and real-world industry applications. Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, emphasized how this collaboration represents a milestone for Indian semiconductor R&D. “We expect that the combination of academic ingenuity and industry expertise here will lead to the indigenous development of market-leading power devices,” he said.
For iVP Semi, this collaboration aligns with its mission to develop cutting-edge, scalable semiconductor solutions while strengthening industry-academia ties. Ms. Ponni Carlin, COO of iVP Semi, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, stating, “iVP Semi is proud to collaborate with India’s leading academic institutions to translate advanced research into high-impact, market-ready power semiconductor solutions.
