IIT Bombay and Infosys Sign MoU to Forge AI Innovation Partnership
IIT Bombay and Infosys, represented by IITB’s Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Nandan Nilekani, and Mr. Brijesh Balakrishnan, Vice President, Infosys, signed an MoU to advance AI-powered methodologies and publish related research as mutually agreed. The collaboration will also focus on developing demonstrable solutions that can be rolled out for proof-of-concept implementations with Infosys customers.
This partnership unites IIT Bombay’s research excellence with Infosys’ industry reach, accelerating the journey from AI innovation to real-world impact.
2. ICICI Foundation
Powering India’s Healthtech Future: IIT Bombay and ICICI Foundation Unveil State-of-the-Art BETIC Hub
In a landmark collaboration, IIT Bombay and the ICICI Foundation have joined forces to create a world-class biomedical innovation hub, the IITB-ICICI BETIC Hub, reinforcing their shared commitment to advancing healthcare technology and driving national progress. Under this partnership, the ICICI Foundation has pledged Rs. 71.6 crore over four years to support the infrastructure and equipment for the upcoming BETIC (Biomedical Engineering and Technology Innovation Centre) space, located on the 6th floor of the COPT building near IIT Bombay’s Research Park.
Apart from several IIT Bombay dignitaries, the MoU signing was graced by Shri Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Chairman, ICICI Foundation, and Mr. Sanjay Datta, President, ICICI Foundation.
With this initiative, IIT Bombay will significantly expand its capabilities in biomedical engineering, a sector that plays a crucial role in India’s healthcare transformation. This state-of-the-art facility will provide an ecosystem where researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders can collaborate to develop cutting-edge medical devices and diagnostic solutions tailored to India’s unique challenges.
In recognition of this contribution, the 6th floor of the COPT building has been named the IITB-ICICI BETIC Facility in perpetuity, and the initiative will be branded as the IITB-ICICI BETIC Hub for the next ten years.
Speaking on the collaboration, Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, said, “This partnership exemplifies how industry-academia alliances can drive innovation towards real-world impact. With ICICI Foundation’s generous support, IIT Bombay is poised to revolutionise biomedical research and technology. It also addresses critical healthcare gaps in India. We aim to deliver accessible, affordable, and scalable home-grown solutions.”
Echoing the sentiment, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Chairman of ICICI Bank, remarked, “Healthcare is a core focus of ICICI Foundation’s CSR mission. BETIC, IIT Bombay, is a multi-institution R&D network with 14 partner institutes across Maharashtra, dedicated to developing indigenous medical devices that address critical healthcare challenges. The team has identified 450 unmet needs after detailed discussions with hundreds of doctors across various specializations, created 240 novel prototypes, and filed 70 patents. They have developed 43 medical devices, out of which 23 have been taken to market by startups formed at BETIC, and the remaining 20 devices have been licensed to Indian companies. A recipient of 61 prestigious awards, BETIC has impacted more than one million lives to date.
The collaboration highlights IIT Bombay’s role as a catalyst for innovation, creating high-impact research opportunities that contribute to India’s self-reliance in healthcare technology. The initiative will nurture talent, support entrepreneurial ventures, enable pioneering advancements in medical science, and reinforce India’s position as a global hub for biomedical engineering.
3. Rolls-Royce
IIT Bombay and Rolls-Royce India Sign MoU to Boost Industry-Academia Collaboration
IIT Bombay has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rolls-Royce India to foster industry-academic collaboration, enable upskilling and knowledge exchange, and explore joint project opportunities. As part of this partnership, M.Tech. students at IIT Bombay will have access to internship opportunities with Rolls-Royce.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Sachin C. Patwardhan, Dean (R&D), IIT Bombay, and Mr. G.S. Selwyn, Executive Vice President, Rolls-Royce India. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Alex Zino, Director – Business Development and Future Programmes, UK and International, Rolls-Royce, along with senior representatives from both institutions.
This collaboration, driven by a shared commitment to excellence, promises an enriching experience for students. At IIT Bombay, the initiative will be led by Prof. A.M. Pradeep from the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
