If the walls of IIT Bombay’s hostels could speak, we could all listen to its stories forever.

Do you remember how the curving corridor of Hostel 7 leading to the wings was the Institute’s very own version of Marine Drive? Or the many stories about Hostel 7’s boisterous wings, gupshup in the terraces, perennially lounging and drinking milkshakes? Do you remember how Hostel 8 was surrounded by lush trees and its proximity to the lake road and gym made it ‘prime real estate.’ And how it was a vibrant late-night hangout place courtesy of Chinese Corner, Brews, and Bites?

Your time spent in the hostel and making lifelong friends and personal connections with your hostel batch mates was as important as your time spent in the classrooms. Maybe more, right?

Many of our alumni such as yourself had the same idea and wanted to share the same joyous experience with the current students of IIT Bombay. This resulted in Project Evergreen – a project that is of alumni, by alumni, and for future alumni. It stands for the timeless connection of IITB’s alumni to their alma mater even as its name evokes vivid images of the lush green and sylvan surroundings of their cherished Institute.

Project Evergreen will replace the Institute’s over 50 years of hostel infrastructure. This first-of-a-kind alumni-led hostel complex will replace hostels 7 and 8.  Additionally, a women’s hostel, Hostel 21, will be constructed to house the increasing number of girl students on campus.

Hostels are crucial for creating a good living environment that is conducive to academic success. Let us ensure that the current and future generations of students have a nurturing and wholesome living space that will enhance the quality of their lives on campus. Your involvement in Project Evergreen, in any capacity, is crucial to reaching our objective of engaging a minimum of 500 distinct alumni to generously contribute to this cause. Join other alumni on Project Evergreen on this transformative endeavour at IIT Bombay!
