Reliving the Nostalgia: Hostels of IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay’s hostels are filled with memories of laughter, late-night chats, and lifelong friendships. The time you spent in the hostel, building lifelong friendships and personal connections with your batchmates, was just as significant as your hours in the classroom—perhaps even more so, don’t you think?

This crucial experience is an integral part of the unique journey of coming into your own at IIT Bombay.

To carry this tradition of learning and growth into the future, our alumni have joined forces to launch Project Evergreen—a visionary initiative to modernize 50-year-old hostels and meet the demands of a flourishing student body. From just 3,000 students in the early days to over 15,000 today, our campus has come a long way! Even more inspiring, where there were once only a handful of female students per batch, today, 1 in 4 students on campus is a woman. This progress positions us as a leader in advancing women in STEM, bringing India closer to global benchmarks.

The project includes rebuilding Hostels 7 and 8 and introducing Hostel 21, a dedicated space for female students.

Why It Matters

Hostels are more than just buildings; they’re the heart of student life. By supporting this project, you’ll help ensure that current and future students enjoy the same incredible campus experience that you did.

With Project Evergreen, we’re aiming to:

    –  Provide modern, comfortable accommodations.
    –  Create spaces for collaborative learning.
    –  Build vibrant community areas where students can connect and thrive.
    –  Create and nurture student diversity on campus

This transformative project is well underway and nearing the finish line, thanks to alumni support.

Thanks to the support of over 450 alumni, we’ve made fantastic progress:

    –  Construction at H8 (boys’ hostel) has reached the ninth floor.
    –  The terrace slab for H7 is almost done.
    –  The terrace slab of H21 (girls’ hostel) is moving ahead quickly.

Each building is designed with sustainable technologies and green principles to set new standards in campus living.

We need your help to take Project Evergreen across the finish line. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. Together, we can create a sustainable, inspiring campus that empowers future generations of IITB students.
