IIT Bombay X UC Davis Scholar Exchange
In an increasingly interconnected world, global collaboration in education is no longer optional, it is essential. The IIT Bombay X UC Davis Scholar Exchange is a joint initiative between the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and the University of California, Davis.
The global landscape of education and research is undergoing a profound shift, underscored by an urgent need for collaboration that transcends national boundaries. Even amid geopolitical shifts and changing funding patterns, universities have a powerful opportunity to come together to actively strengthen cooperation and cultural exchange.
Program Objectives
The Scholar Exchange aims to promote international collaboration, enhance accessibility and affordability, cultivate innovation and research and prepare future leaders with global mindsets and cross-cultural competencies
Supporting one student’s participation in the exchange program requires approximately USD 7,000 and contributions of any size are welcome towards this shared funding pool.
Program Structure
Participants will undertake a 8-10 week immersive experience in the host country (Davis, USA or Mumbai, India) . The exchange includes:
– Faculty-mentored research projects
– Academic and professional development sessions
– Business and innovation exposure
– Cultural and community engagement activities
The inaugural cohort is expected to begin in Summer 2026, with 5–10 undergraduate engineering students from each institution. The program aims to scale in future years, with a vision of enabling sustained faculty collaboration by 2030.
One Integrated Program, Coordinated Across Two Institutions
Because this is a truly joint program, both UC Davis and IIT Bombay are raising funds in parallel, each institution supporting students during the portion of the program hosted on its campus.
– This is one integrated exchange program, jointly designed and administered by UC Davis and IIT Bombay.
– Each university maintains its own scholarship fund, used exclusively to support students while they are in that country.
– Together, these coordinated funds ensure that financial need does not limit participation, and that students from a wide range of backgrounds can take part.
Our shared goal is to make the program simple and transparent for donors, while allowing flexibility to support students based on need, travel costs, and cohort size.
