Sudhir Badami devoted an appreciable amount of his time when the class of 71 at IITB was organizing the Silver Jubilee Reunion of his batch and he was largely responsible for the high turnout at the reunion. Mr. Badami says, his getting Internet literate helped him to revive the alumni activities in Mumbai, and of the IIT Bombay Alumni Mumbai Monthly Meet, or simply the IITB-MMM. This has ensured that they meet every month maintaining the interest levels about their alma mater. This is perhaps the major contribution that he has made to the Institute.
Mr. Badami started his career with the team of design engineers at the Bombay Stock Exchange Building in 1974, moved over to Humphreys and Glasgow Consultants to challenging and variety of design assignments related to industrial structures mainly related to process plants.
He spent four years in the early eighties in Bangalore with SPA consultants at the Wheel and Axe Plant and was invited to lead a team of designers and construction contractor on behalf of Kinetics Technologies India Ltd. to execute the fast track Gas Sweetening Plant of ONGC at Hazira in the mid eighties. While he was with Davy Powergas (now Kvaerner Powergas) he was given the responsibility to do the detailed engineering of major structures of the Vikram Ispat’s Sponge Iron Plant Project. In the early nineties he seems to have finally taken the plunge to be practising as Consulting Engineer-Civil Structural.
