After holding faculty positions in Electrical Engineering at the University of Florida and the University of Minnesota, Prof. Pramod Khargonekar joined The University of Michigan in 1989 as Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He became Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1997 and also held the position of Claude E. Shannon Professor of Engineering Science. He rejoined the University of Florida and served as Dean of the College of Engineering from July 2001 to July 2009. He is currently Eckis Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida.

Prof. Khargonekar’s research and teaching interests are centered on theory and applications of systems and control. His current focus is on control and systems issues in renewable energy and smart grid, neural engineering, and autonomous systems. He has supervised and mentored 30 doctoral students, co-authored more than 120 refereed journal publications, holds three patents, and has 170 conference publications and two co-edited books to his credit.

Prof. Khargonekar s a recipient of many prestigious awards including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, the American Automatic Control Council’s Donald Eckman Award, and the IEEE W.R.G. Baker Prize Award.

Prof. Pramod Khargonekar received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Bombay in 1997. He is a very active leader of FAN.

After graduation from IIT Bombay, Prof. Khargonekar received M.S. degree in Mathematics and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida in 1980 and 1981, respectively.
