He spent his probation period in various capacities at the Jalgaon District, Maharashtra. He worked as the ASP in Ahmednagar district for 18 months, where he was responsible for the supervision of 4 police stations. He then joined Gadchiroli district as the ASP of Aheri and ASP of the Anti-Naxal operations for 2 years. He was responsible for the operational planning of a 6000 strong force, maintaining the safety and security of all the outposts, collection of human and technical intelligence about the district and nearby districts, planning and execution of intelligence-based operations, and other routine administrative issues like personnel management, general administration, and welfare of the force.

He then served as the DCP of Nagpur for a short stint of 9 months, where he was part of urban policing. Following that, he served as the Superintendent of Police of Aurangabad Rural. There, he was responsible for the overall functioning of 24 police stations and led the force on all fronts, including administration, procurement, operations, planning, and infusion of technology in the day-to-day functioning of the police department. Since September 2024, he has been working as the DCP of Mumbai City, where he is responsible for the overall functioning of 7 police stations.

Throughout his career, Mr. Kalwaniya has been in leadership roles for various important events like elections, major festivals, crowd management, security of vital installations, and persons of national importance. He was instrumental in fighting left wing extremism in the Gadchiroli district from September 2019 to October 2021. He engaged with citizens during the community policing drives and was part of the Police Dada Lora Khidki initiative that was recognised by the FICCI Smart Policing Awards 2021. Around 5 lakh people were benefitted by a single window approach where vocational training, business training, and government schemes were given to citizens. By becoming a bridge with a single-window solution, he was able to provide the benefit of government schemes to 2.7 lakh citizens of remote areas who were otherwise deprived of the same. This connection with the community helped Gadchiroli police in intelligence gathering, logistical support to police, and elimination of ground support of Naxals in the rural area. The exercise, coupled with a dramatic change in the field tactics, helped the team in the elimination of 50, arrest of 46, and surrender of 42 hardened Naxalites during 2 years of his service in the LWE hit district.

Special Memories Associated with IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay taught me to work hard, make relationships, and be resilient. Lake side visits with friends, building friendships for life, Sports GC, hostel events, Valfi, and the sports activities at the Institute are still fresh in my mind. Evening volleyball matches at the hostel were the best part of the day. Practical classes at the xdepartment were challenging, and the struggle was memorable.
