Mr. Jagdish J. Moorjani
B.Tech., Chemical Engineering, 1993

Mr. Jagdish Moorjani is currently the Co-Founder of CitiusTech Healthcare Technology Private Limited (CitiusTech).

He won the Institute Silver Medal for ranking first in class in his B.Tech. at IIT Bombay. He then enrolled for his MS at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a fellowship. Unfortunately, he was unable to finish the degree since he had to return to India to care for a terminally ill parent. He then earned his LLB degree from Mumbai University.

Mr. Moorjani co-founded TransWorks in 1999 and CitiusTech in 2005 with a colleague from IIT Bombay and MIT (Mr. Rizwan Koita).

TransWorks was one of India’s earliest Business Process Outsourcing Companies and was acquired in 2003 by the Aditya Birla Group, one of India’s most respected business houses. As Joint President of TransWorks (until 2005), he was responsible for various business functions in the company over its evolution, such as operations and quality. TransWorks became a respected provider of BPO services and served leading global entities such as Microsoft and Apple.

As Chief Operating Officer of CitiusTech (until 2022), he was responsible for its global service delivery as well as associated support functions such as hiring, training, technology, quality, and information systems. He had the opportunity to build and lead a team of over 5,000 qualified and motivated technology and functional professionals who delivered cutting edge software and technology services in the domain of healthcare to over 150 leading global names in the different segments of healthcare – including hospitals, provider groups, payors, healthcare software companies, medical device companies, and pharmaceutical/life sciences companies. CitiusTech had and continues to have an exceptional leadership team.

As Co-Founder of these entities, he had the opportunity to enter into and maintain private equity relationships with leading global firms such as General Atlantic Partners, Baring EQT, Bain Capital, and Chryscapital. TransWorks (since acquired) and CitiusTech enjoyed and continue to enjoy excellent, trust-based relationships with their private equity partners, as well as their clients, employees, and suppliers, and have always been respected for their ethical business practices.

Mr. Moorjani’s experiences have also enabled him to work with different not-for-profit organizations that serve society in different areas – across education, healthcare, legal reform, vocational training, and care for individuals with special needs. Specifically in education, the institutions he actively works with and supports and whose boards he serves on as a Trustee provide education to almost 100,000 students across India and the world, from the nursery to the University level. These institutions combine the best of Indian values with contemporary knowledge and facilities to provide holistic education to students.

Mr. Moorjani was conferred the Leadership in Times of Crisis Award by the Great Place to Work Institute.

Any other interesting fact about yourself that you may like to share: As mentioned in my educational qualifications, I have an uncommon set of educational qualifications – an engineering degree from IIT Bombay and a law degree from Mumbai University. Also, CitiusTech achieved its unicorn status without using any third-party capital.

Hobbies: I am an avid reader and enjoy reading books on a variety of diverse topics. These range from science to economics to history (Indian and world).

Special Memories Associated with IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay will always hold a very special place in my heart. It was a place where I built close friendships, gained tremendous academic and research knowledge, and got to know Mr. Rizwan Koita, who would become my future business partner. In addition to the memories associated with the various extracurricular activities that IIT Bombay offered, my most special memories from IIT Bombay are associated with the opportunity to have been taught by faculty members who were not only incredibly accomplished academically but who were also inspiring individuals.
