Mr. Arjun Divecha is a B.Tech. in Aeronautical Engineering from IIT Bombay (1979) and an MBA in Finance from Cornell University (1981).
In 1993 he joined GMO (Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co) to start a fund that invested in equities in emerging markets. An immensely successful business manager, Mr. Divecha has directed GMO’s unusual approach to emerging markets investing which is a computer driven process. This approach has proved to be successful for the Boston-based GMO, which is managing $121 billion in assets, especially for institutions and wealthy investors. He is currently based in Berkeley, and, as the Chairman of the GMO Board, he is responsible for overseeing the team managing the GMO Emerging Markets Strategy , GMO Emerging Countries Strategy and the GMO Emerging Illiquid Strategy with assets of over $25 billion.
Prior to his affiliation with GMO, Mr. Divecha spent 12 years at BARRA (a Berkeley-based investment research firm) directing software development, marketing, client service and emerging markets research and development.
Mr. Divecha is the Founder-Director of The Divecha Centre for Climate Change, located at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and a board member of the Bay Area chapter of Pratham.
