Dr. Aranyak Mehta is currently a Distinguished Research Scientist at Google Research, Mountain View, CA, USA.
After his B.Tech. from IIT Bombay, he received his PhD in Computer Science – Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization – from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, in 2005.
Dr. Mehta’s contributions in technology, innovation, and research involve pioneering work at the intersection of algorithms, microeconomics, game theory, auction design, and machine learning. His seminal research established the field of online matching algorithms and their applications, with his book becoming a cornerstone reference in the area. His influential paper “Adwords and generalized online matching” earned the prestigious ACM SIGecom Test of Time Award in 2024, recognizing its lasting impact on the field.
As a mentor, he has guided industry research and production teams and many student interns. His contributions to the industry have led to notable innovations in internet market technologies, from sophisticated auction design and auto-bidding algorithms to online resource matching allocation, particularly in search monetization and two-sided markets, delivering significant business impact.
