Mr. Abhay Nadkarni is the Chief Commercial Officer at Iris Energy LLC.

After earning his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1981 and his PGDM from IIM Bangalore in 1985, Mr. Nadkarni built an impressive career spanning four decades, primarily in the FMCG, consumer, and retail sectors.

His professional journey includes tenures with multinationals like Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, and Sony, and roles as a franchisee for British American Tobacco (BAT), Gallaher, Laura Ashley, and The Society Shop. As an entrepreneur, he represented US and UK firms in the Middle Eastern markets and consulted for KPMG and Pannell Kerr Foster.

Mr. Nadkarni’s expertise spans business strategy, development, marketing, and general management. He has worked across diverse industries — including emerging technology, NDT, IT, energy, healthcare, and personal products — with geographic exposure in the Middle East, India, Africa, the Far East, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. Notably, he was felicitated twice by Unilever for outstanding teamwork and listed as a “Sustained High Performer” for three consecutive years.

Deeply involved in IIT Bombay alumni activities, Mr. Nadkarni served on the Project Evergreen team by leading Marketing and Communications, managed the installation of sculptures and murals, and led the way-finding signage initiative with S. Narayan. Currently, he is active in the Digitalization Cell, working to incorporate AI into Institute processes, while assisting leadership in developing strategic themes for the Institute’s future.

Regarding his volunteer work, he shares a unique family legacy: he and his brother, Uday Nadkarni, are likely the only brothers to have received the DSA and served as Gymkhana General Secretaries—Uday as G.S. Sports (1977-78) and Abhay as G.S. Cultural (1980-81).
