Dr. Sheel Kant Sharma did his M.Sc. in Physics in 1971 and his Ph.D. in high Energy Physics in 1974.

Dr. Sharma is currently the Ambassador of India to Austria and permanent representative of India to the UN organizations in Vienna. He joined the Indian Foreign service in July 1973. He has held many important positions in the Ministry of External Affairs and in International Atomic Energy Agency, Austria. He has made significant contributions to International affairs of India, and disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation issues.

His nuclear and high-energy physics background, which he acquired at IITB was an important asset in these activities.

Dr. Sharma has furthered India’s stand on strategic technologies like space, nuclear, advanced materials and missiles.
