IITB Alumnus Atharvaa Tayade Triumphs at FIDE World Rapid Championship
IIT Bombay alumnus Mr. Atharvaa Tayade (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 2023) made the Institute proud as part of the first Indian team to win the FIDE World Rapid Championship in London, competing alongside legends like Mr. Viswanathan Anand and Mr. Magnus Carlsen. At IIT Bombay, he served as the Board Games Secretary in 2021 and as the Overall Coordinator for Aavhan in 2022.

Shankar Krishnamoorthy: Investing in Innovation, Inspiring Generations
“Giving back to IIT Bombay is a privilege — it’s where my foundation was built, and I want future generations to dream even bigger,” says Mr. Shankar Krishnamoorthy (B.Tech., Computer Science & Engineering, 1990), Chief Product Development Officer at Synopsys Inc.
A visionary leader in the global semiconductor industry, Mr. Krishnamoorthy has spent decades pioneering technologies that power the age of pervasive AI. As Chief Product Development Officer at Synopsys, he oversees technology and product development across design, verification, emulation, prototyping, virtualization, signoff, test, TCAD, and manufacturing domains for digital, analog, and mixed-signal designs. Prior to this, he held several key leadership roles at Synopsys, including General Manager of the Electronic Design Automation Group and Silicon Realization Group. He joined Mentor in 2007 with the acquisition of Sierra Design Automation, where he was founder and CTO. Mentor Graphics was acquired by Siemens in 2017.
Mr. Krishnamoorthy’s journey from the classrooms of IIT Bombay to helm one of the world’s leading technology companies is a testament to his belief in continuous learning and bold thinking. His recent philanthropic commitment to his alma mater exemplifies this spirit. His contribution aims to strengthen student and faculty support, aligning with the Institute’s strategic roadmap that envisions fostering innovation and research excellence.
The impact of his gift spans multiple facets of academic life at IIT Bombay. It includes a dedicated M.Tech. Fellowship in SemiX titled the ‘Shankar Krishnamoorthy SemiX Fellowship’ to nurture future leaders in semiconductors, the ‘Shankar Krishnamoorthy Global Exposure Fund’ which is a student support fund enabling CSE students to participate in international conferences, and a Research Development Fund to accelerate breakthroughs in the Department of Electrical Engineering. In addition, two student excellence awards, including one for the best B.Tech. project in CSE for 4th year UG students titled the ‘Shankar Krishnamoorthy Student Excellence Award’ and another for the best overall student, also a 4th year UG student, called the ‘Shankar Krishnamoorthy Student Excellence Award’ in EE, will recognize and motivate exceptional talent to push boundaries further.
Through these initiatives, Mr. Krishnamoorthy’s support goes beyond financial assistance; it represents a powerful vote of confidence in the capabilities and aspirations of IIT Bombay’s students and faculty. It encourages young minds to embrace global exposure, pursue ambitious research, and redefine excellence on their terms.

IIT Bombay Alumnus Prof. Raaz Dwivedi Launches AI Startup Traversal

IIT Bombay is proud to celebrate its alumnus, Prof. Raaz Dwivedi (B.Tech., Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering, 2014), who has co-founded Traversal, an AI startup set to transform how software systems detect and fix outages. Now an assistant professor at Cornell Tech and Cornell Engineering, Prof. Dwivedi is translating his research in machine learning and causal inference into real-world solutions for system reliability.
Traversal, which recently raised $48 million from top investors including Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins, uses advanced AI models to predict and resolve outages quickly, reducing downtime for major clients worldwide.

IIT Bombay Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Ashish Kumar Chauhan (B.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 1989), MD and CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd., has been awarded the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the Outlook Business Spotlight – Enterprise and Leadership Awards 2025 in Bengaluru.
Celebrated as a visionary technocrat and one of the architects of modern Indian financial markets, Mr. Chauhan’s contributions span screen-based trading to the creation of the NIFTY index. His influence continues to shape India’s financial landscape and inspire future leaders.
