IIT Bombay’s Hostel 4 Alumnus Supports Launch of Nuclear Engineering Programme

We are pleased to recognise the Hostel 4 alumnus whose generous support has enabled the launch of its Nuclear Engineering Programme, supported by the Institute’s IIT Bombay Research Hub for Green Energy and Sustainability (GESH IITB), as a strategic response to India’s bold nuclear energy vision under the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Act, 2025.

As India works towards an ambitious target of 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, the country will need not only advanced technologies but also the scientists, engineers, and innovators who will build the next generation of clean, secure, and self-reliant energy systems.

The programme will help create that talent and knowledge ecosystem.

One of the major focus areas will be thorium-based nuclear technologies, building on India’s unique advantage as one of the world’s largest holders of thorium reserves and contributing to the nation’s long-term three-stage nuclear energy strategy.

Bringing together the interdisciplinary expertise of IIT Bombay’s Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, and Electrical Engineering, the initiative will establish a dedicated Nuclear Measurement Laboratory, foster hands-on learning, and enable cutting-edge research through collaborations with national laboratories, global academic institutions, and industry.

Mr. Aatish Dedhia Establishes the DEXA Fund

We are pleased to recognise the generous contribution of Mr. Aatish Dedhia (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 1990), CEO, Zycus Infotech Pvt. Ltd., who has established the Dedhia Engineering Excellence Accelerator (DEXA) Fund at IIT Bombay.

The DEXA Fund has been created to support and accelerate high-potential student engineering teams working in frontier domains such as autonomous systems, AI-driven technologies, aerospace, and advanced engineering.

In its first cohort, the fund will support IIT Bombay’s Rocket Team and AUV-IITB, enabling students to design, build, test, and deploy cutting-edge technologies while gaining invaluable hands-on engineering experience.

Speaking about the DEXA Fund, Mr. Dedhia said, “Some of the most valuable learning happens when students build real systems and compete with the best in the world. I hope the DEXA Fund enables more IIT Bombay students to pursue ambitious engineering projects and achieve world-class excellence.”
