On March 10, 1958, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of IIT Bombay and set in motion an idea that the Institute would stand tall on the pillars of knowledge, innovation, and progress. Over the years, IIT Bombay has continued its journey of excellence on the strength of its foundation, one built on the dedication of its faculty, the relentless drive of its students, the steadfast commitment of its staff, and the tenacious commitment of its alumni and corporate partners.

And on the 66th Foundation Day celebrations, IIT Bombay recognized and honoured the remarkable work of its faculty, whose contributions push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation, and its alumni community.
Mr. Ravi Pandit, Founder-Chairman and Non-Executive Chairman, KPIT Technologies Ltd., was the Chief Guest of the function. Several Institute dignitaries, including Dr. Sharad Kumar Saraf, Director, Board of Governors, IIT Bombay, Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, and others, attended the ceremony.
SCIENTIFIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The following faculty members received this year’s Scientific Excellence Awards.
Prof. S. C. Sahasrabudhe Lifetime Achievement Award (2024-25)

The Prof. S. C. Sahasrabudhe Lifetime Achievement Award (2024-25) was conferred on Prof. Jayesh Bellare, Department of Chemical Engineering, in recognition of his outstanding contributions as a teacher, researcher, and administrator.
Prof. S. C. Bhattacharya Award for Excellence in Pure Sciences (2024)

The Prof. S. C. Bhattacharya Award for Excellence in Pure Sciences (2024) was conferred on Prof. Gopalan Rajaraman, Department of Chemistry, for his outstanding contributions in the areas of Molecular Magnetism, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Spintronics, and Catalysis.
Prof. H. H. Mathur Award for Excellence in Applied Sciences (2024)

The Prof. H. H. Mathur Award for Excellence in Applied Sciences (2024) was conferred on Prof. Maryam Shojaei Baghini, Department of Electrical Engineering, for her outstanding contributions in the area of Analog/ Mixed-Signal IC Design, Sensor-Systems, Energy Harvesting Circuits and Systems, and Neuromorphic Engineering.

IIT Bombay also honoured its alumni community by presenting the 2024 Distinguished Alumni Awards (DAA) and the Young Alumni Achiever Awards (YAAA).

INSTITUTE CLEANLINESS AWARDS
In line with IIT Bombay’s commitment to sustainability and cleanliness, the Institute Cleanliness Award was also presented during the Foundation Day event. The Cleanliness Award recognizes the dedicated efforts of various academic departments, Section 8 companies, hostels, and non-academic sections/ buildings in creating and maintaining a clean, green, and happy campus.
A committee, led by Prof. K.P. Kaliappan, Dean of Strategy, conducted a detailed assessment and selected the winners. They were felicitated with a Rotating Trophy and a Certificate of Appreciation during the ceremony.
