IIT Bombay’s recent US Roadshow, spanning multiple cities, marked a significant milestone in fostering deeper connections with alumni across the United States. The Roadshow provided a unique platform for IIT Bombay’s leadership to engage with alumni, share updates on the Institute’s progress, and discuss opportunities for continued collaboration. The Roadshow also brought together over 500 IIT Bombay alumni spanning six decades, strengthening the global IIT Bombay community and reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation.
Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations (ACR), spearheaded the events with insightful fireside chats and presentations. They shared the Institute’s vision, discussed key challenges, and outlined strategic priorities. They also encouraged alumni to participate in the upcoming fundraising drive and stressed the importance of collective alumni support. Each of these sessions featured an inspiring video narrating IIT Bombay’s remarkable journey and concluded with an interactive Q&A session that encouraged thoughtful dialogue and engagement.
This year’s Roadshow was held in five major US cities—New York, San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, and Portland. Below, we delve into the highlights from each of these cities.
Greater New York
The Greater New York (GNY) Chapter hosted the New York leg of the US Roadshow at the Consulate General of India in New York City. The event brought together over 125 alumni from various graduating decades, providing attendees the opportunity to reconnect and engage with the extended IIT Bombay community.
The programme began with Mr. Ritesh Aggarwal (B.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 1998), Vice President of the GNY Chapter, welcoming attendees and setting the stage for the event. Chapter President, Mr. Yogesh Kher (B.Tech., MEMS, 1987), recognized the chapter’s Distinguished Service Award (DSA) and Community Service Award (CSA) recipients’ achievements and shared the chapter’s future goals.
The Honourable Mr. Binaya Pradhan, Consul General of India, attended the event and presented his experiences establishing IIT campuses in Africa. He also unveiled the ‘GNY Point 2024 magazine,’ highlighting significant contributions from the alumni community.
Mr. Pranay Agrawal, Co-founder and CEO of Fractal Analytics, delivered a keynote address on the evolution of artificial intelligence and its implications for the future, followed by a Q&A session.
The event concluded with a networking session that allowed alumni to further engage with each other and discuss future initiatives.

San Francisco Bay Area
Over 175 alumni attended the SF Bay Area Alumni Meet.
Keynote sessions included an interactive fireside chat on “Entrepreneurial Opportunities in AI: The Venture Capital Perspective” with Mr. Ursheet Parikh (B.Tech., Computer Science and Engineering, 1988), Partner at Mayfield Fund, moderated by Mr. Anil Kshirsagar (B.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 1975). A conversation on “Idea to IPO” with Mr. Jitendra Mohan (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 1994), CEO and Founder of Astera Labs, was moderated by Mr. Vinay Karle (B.Tech., Civil Engineering,1996).
Prof. Gudi also announced a generous gift from the alumni couple – Mr. Jitendra Mohan (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 1994) and Ms. Swapna Samant (B.Tech., Civil Engineering, 1995). Their contribution will be used to develop Hostel 9, a Chair Professorship, and semiconductor research.

Austin
The Austin leg of the US Roadshow was held at the University of Texas at Austin. The event was organized with the support of Prof. Prashant Joshi (B.Tech., CSE, 1985), who played a key role in logistics and drew alumni from Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Attendees represented a diverse range of batches, from 1962 to 2022.
The day began with a meeting between IIT Bombay’s leadership and long-time collaborators at UT Austin, where discussions centered on strengthening research ties and continuing exchange programmes for students, postdocs, and graduate students.
The keynote address was delivered by IITB Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Rameshwar Maini (B.Tech., Civil Engineering, 1967), President and CEO of Zentech Inc., who made the journey from Houston to speak about his personal journey and the profound impact IIT Bombay had on his career. He encouraged all alumni to contribute annually, ranging from $100 to $1,000, to support IIT Bombay’s goal of becoming one of the world’s top-ranked universities.
The event was supported by ICICI Bank and Mr. William “BJ” Stremple of Edward Jones, whose sponsorship was instrumental in making the gathering a success.

Dallas
The Dallas leg of the US Roadshow began at the Dallas Metroplex for a series of alumni events. The day began with a lunch meeting at the Tower Club at the Dallas Tower, organized by the local Dallas Chapter leadership. During the meeting, accomplished IIT Bombay alumni shared ideas on various initiatives, including curriculum updates and creating platforms for enhanced alumni-student engagement and counselling activities.
In the evening, approximately 45 alumni gathered at the Match Group facility for a dinner event. The event was kicked off by Mr. Amarnath Thombre (B.Tech., Chemical Engineering, 1994), Board member of MistPlay and former CEO of Match Group Americas, who delivered an insightful address on the business and market for platforms that foster human connections. Chapter President, Mr. Ranga Thittai (B.Tech., Civil Engineering, 1998), celebrated the Distinguished Alumnus and Distinguished Service Award recipients.
A light-hearted panel discussion titled “From Powai to Dallas,” was moderated by Mr. Raj Menon (M.Tech., Chemical Engineering, 1988) a member and Treasurer on the Board of Trustees of Collin College, and the Board of Directors of the Collin College Foundation, and featured Mr. Thombre, Mr. Raghu Mahadevan (M.Tech., Integrated Mechanical Engineering, 1999), Executive Vice President, Chief Digital & Supply Chain Officer at 7-Eleven, and Prof. Kedare. The panelists shared their memorable experiences from their time at IIT Bombay and their lives post-graduation with the audience.
The evening concluded with a fun trivia game, sparking nostalgia among alumni as they reminisced about their campus experiences, its rich history, and its unique lingo.

Portland
The Portland Chapter Alumni Meet was attended by over 50 local alumni. It was hosted by Mr. Shailesh Mulgaonker (B.Tech., Chemical Engineering, 1984), President of the Portland Chapter, who introduced the newly established chapter to the attendees.
The evening began with a talk by Mr. Kaizad Mistry (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 1984) on India’s ambitious plans for semiconductor design and manufacturing and highlighted the role of public-private partnerships.
The event concluded with a dinner where attendees had the opportunity to network with the visiting IIT Bombay team. The evening wrapped up with a light-hearted celebration of Prof. Gudi’s birthday, with the chapter members extending their warm wishes.
