A Legacy of Giving: Property Donations Fuel IIT Bombay’s Future
IIT Bombay has long been a torchbearer of excellence, driven by a legacy of innovation, academic rigor, and a commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow. However, the Institute’s success is not only built on its world-class faculty, cutting-edge research, and exceptional students but also on the unwavering support it receives from its alumni and well-wishers.
In a powerful display of gratitude and commitment, several individuals have made transformative property donations to the Institute, ensuring that future generations of students and scholars continue to thrive. These selfless contributions will not only sustain IIT Bombay’s legacy but will also propel it into new realms of academic and infrastructural advancement, fostering an environment where excellence continues to flourish.
These generous donations, each uniquely impactful, reflect the deep bond between IIT Bombay and its community. Below are the details of the incredible contributions made by our alumni and well-wishers:
Mrs. Parvathy Aiyar (Wife of Late Prof. R.S. Aiyar, Civil Engineering Department)
Mrs. Aiyar, alongside her two daughters—both IIT Bombay alumni—have transferred two of their flats to IIT Bombay. The funds from the sale will be used to name a conference room and establish a chair in the Civil Engineering Department in memory of Prof. R.S. Aiyar. This contribution underscores the deep bond between the Aiyar family and IIT Bombay, ensuring that Prof. Aiyar’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Mr. Vijay Rajadhyaksha (B.Tech, Mechanical Engineering, 1974)
A dedicated alumnus from the Class of 1974, Mr. Rajadhyaksha has donated a piece of land located in Kalamb, Maharashtra, to IIT Bombay. This donation is part of his contribution to the Golden Jubilee legacy of the batch of 1974. The funds from this donation will be used for the batch legacy project, and the batch leaders are eager to encourage their fellow alumni to follow suit in supporting IIT Bombay.
Mr. Praful Dand (B.Tech., Chemical Engineering, 1971)
Mr. Dand has made a significant contribution by donating two pieces of land in Coimbatore. The proceeds from the sale of these properties will be used to establish two endowments to fund student scholarships at IIT Bombay each year. This gesture reflects Mr. Dand’s commitment to supporting future leaders and ensuring that talented students have the resources they need to succeed.
These contributions, both from alumni and well-wishers, are invaluable to IIT Bombay as they enhance the Institute’s ability to support academic and infrastructural growth. From funding chairs and conference rooms to establishing scholarships for future students, these gifts ensure that IIT Bombay continues to be a hub of excellence, innovation, and opportunity.
IIT Bombay is enormously grateful for the ongoing support it receives from its alumni and supporters. It is truly a testament to the lasting impact IIT Bombay has on its community and the world.
