IIT Bombay Distinguished Alumnus, Prof. Umesh V. Waghmare, Appointed Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), India

IIT Bombay is delighted that its Distinguished Alumnus, Prof. Umesh V. Waghmare (B.Tech., Engineering Physics, 1990), has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST), India. He currently serves as the President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR).

A distinguished theoretical physicist, Prof. Waghmare graduated from IIT Bombay with the Institute Silver Medal. He then earned his PhD from Yale University in 1996 and completed postdoctoral research at Harvard University (1996–2000). He joined JNCASR in 2000 and has been a Professor in its Theoretical Sciences Unit since then.
