Mr. Mukund Kulkarni

Mr. Mukund Kulkarni is happily retired.

After his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1971, he completed the Corporate Management Development Programme at Cranfield School of Management in 1992. Mr. Kulkarni pursued a career in Engineering and Project Management immediately following his graduation.

His professional journey began as a Project Mechanical Engineer at Indian Organic Chemicals Ltd, Chennai, followed by seven years working on the 100 MW Dhruv Research Reactor Project at BARC, Trombay. He then spent 29 years at Aker Powergas (Davy Powergas), retiring as a Board Member responsible for Engineering, and served another three years as Senior Vice President-Strategic Initiatives in an advisory role. Throughout his tenure, he managed large greenfield and brownfield projects in the chemical, petrochemical, refinery, and metallurgical sectors globally, with a special focus on Quality Management and Sustainability.

Mr. Kulkarni has been actively involved in alumni activities, specifically with the Project Evergreen construction team from May 2024 to June 2025. He participated in design reviews and committee meetings, submitted value engineering proposals that optimised costs and added clearer definition and design of tie-ins and interfaces with existing systems of IITB campus with respect of Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing Systems and overall Project Progress Monitoring. Additionally, he assisted in procuring Emergency Power and Rooftop PV systems and submitted a “major lessons learned” presentation during the project closeout phase.

Hobbies:
Travelling and reading.


Special Memories

“20 Hour Cycling adventure with group of 10-12 hostel 4 mates (few names I remember are Jayant Arbatti, Pramod Choudhury, Subhash Hirkannawar, Madhav Rahalkar, Desai, Morankar, Dasnurkar) from the campus to Pune started on 9 December 1967 afternoon and ended on 10 December. Experienced Koyana earthquake stuck in the early hours of 11 December 1967 during overnight stay in Pune.”
