IIT Bombay Team Wins Top Honours at Prestigious Gravity Research Foundation Competition

IIT Bombay is delighted that a team comprising Mr. George Christopher Panneer Selvam (PhD student) and Mr. Hari K (postdoctoral fellow), and led by Prof. Shankaranarayanan S has won the First Prize at the 77^th Gravity Research Foundation Essay Competition in the USA. With a legacy dating back to 1949 and past winners including Mr. Stephen Hawking and Mr. Roger Penrose, the competition is among the most prestigious recognitions in gravitational physics. Their award-winning essay proposes an innovative way to detect elusive primordial black holes by observing how their intense gravitational effects alter hydrogen atoms in space, creating unique radio signatures termed a “Gravitational Spectral Forest.”

IIT Bombay Teams Make a Strong Impact at Global Sustainability Challenge Finale in Munich

IIT Bombay played a key role in the Global Sustainability Challenge Global Finale at the Technical University of Munich as a Founding Partner and Regional Ambassador for South Asia. Students from the Institute participated across three teams, with Mr. Harsh Raj and Team EcoMolecule securing Second Prize in the Adaptation & Resilience category, alongside several honourable mentions for outstanding sustainability innovations. The Institute, together with Maker Bhavan Foundation and Greenko School of Sustainability, also supported the participation of all 10 South Asian finalist teams, reflecting IIT Bombay’s growing leadership in global sustainability initiatives.

IIT Bombay’s GROWTH India Team Receives the ASI Zubin Kembhavi Award 2025

IIT Bombay’s GROWTH India Team (GIT) received the ASI Zubin Kembhavi Award 2025 for the observational and instrumentation work in astronomy and allied fields. The ceremony was held as part of the Astronomical Society of India’s annual meeting in Guwahati. The team pioneered India’s fully robotic optical research telescope and enabled globally impactful discoveries in time-domain astronomy. The team was also recognised for advancing frontier research while building sustainable infrastructure and training the next generation of astronomers. Mr. Aditya from IIT Bombay and Prof. G.C. Anupama (co-PI, IIA) received the award on behalf of the Institute.
