IIT Bombay and SEDEMAC Mark a Milestone for India’s Deep-Tech Ecosystem
IIT Bombay achieved a landmark moment for India’s academic startup ecosystem with SEDEMAC Mechatronics Pvt. Ltd., the first-of-its-kind faculty-led deep-tech startup from the Institute, when it went public through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). A company incubated at the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) in 2008, SEDEMAC’s public listing marks an important moment for India’s growing deep-tech innovation landscape and IIT Bombay’s entrepreneurship movement.

SEDEMAC emerged from research led by IIT Bombay’s Prof. Shashikanth Suryanarayanan and his students and is the second IPO from SINE’s ecosystem. The first was ideaForge Technology, which was founded by alumni of IIT Bombay. Companies that have emerged from SINE have collectively reached the Rs. 3.9 billion valuation mark.
