IIT Bombay Welcomes Delegates from Leading French Higher Ed Associations

IIT Bombay welcomed a high-level delegation from leading French higher education associations as part of its continued efforts to strengthen international academic collaboration and global engagement. The visiting delegation represented France Universités, Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE), and CEDEFI, along with officials from the Consulate General of France in Mumbai. The visit aimed to gain deeper insights into India’s higher education ecosystem, research landscape, and IIT Bombay’s internationalisation strategy.

IIT Bombay Hosts Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai

IIT Bombay was honoured to host Mr. Christoph Hallier, the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai, during his first official visit to campus. Mr. Hallier interacted with Institute leadership, including Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (ART), to gain a deeper insight into IIT Bombay’s vision, academic strengths, and global initiatives. Discussions focused on building upon the already strong academic and research partnerships between IIT Bombay and German institutions. He also visited the IIT Bombay Research Park, where he explored the Institute’s dynamic innovation and translation ecosystem.

IIT Bombay Celebrates Mood Indigo

IIT Bombay celebrated its annual Mood Indigo from December 16 to 18, 2025, transforming the campus into a vibrant hub of art, fashion, music, and student creativity. Themed “A Vortex of Vandalism,” Asia’s largest student-run cultural festival featured a diverse lineup of events, including fashion showcases, performance arts, sustainability-driven initiatives like Trashion, and cosplay and talent competitions that encouraged bold self-expression. The festival’s evenings were marked by electrifying performances from artistes such as Sonu Nigam, Seedhe Maut, Dhruv, Bismil, and Chaar Diwaari, as well as engaging interactions with film personalities such as Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, Rakul Preet, and more. Drawing students from across the country, Mood Indigo remains a defining cultural experience, offering three days of creativity, connection, and celebration.

IIT Bombay Inaugurates Two New Campus Facilities

A. 3D-Printed Security Cabin on Campus

Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3D-printed concrete security cabin, marking a significant milestone in sustainable construction and advanced manufacturing technologies in India. Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Kedare said, “This innovative cabin, designed and fabricated entirely using 3D concrete printing technology, demonstrates the Institute’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge research for real-world infrastructure solutions. The project showcases the integration of digital fabrication, sustainable materials, and automated construction methods, enabling rapid, cost-effective, and environmentally-conscious building solutions.”

B. New Office of the Dean (Administrative Affairs)

Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, inaugurated the new office of the Dean (Administrative Affairs) in the Nandan Nilekani Main Building on campus. The presence of several IIT Bombay dignitaries at the occasion reflected their commitment to the Institute’s strong administrative framework and its continued emphasis on professionalism, efficiency, and institutional excellence. The Director emphasised that utilising the newly available infrastructure more efficiently will improve the processes and procedures for administrative affairs.

IIT Bombay Inaugurates Centenary Session of IPC 2025

Dr. Radhakrishnan Koppillil, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, inaugurated the Centenary Session of the Indian Philosophical Congress (IPC 2025) on campus. Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice-Chancellor, Central Sanskrit University, joined as the Guest of Honour.

The IPC, founded by Nobel Laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and the renowned philosopher and former President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, is one of India’s oldest academic forums. Its first session was held in 1925 at the University of Calcutta, with the presence of several of India’s leading philosophers. IPC 2025 marks the largest congregation of philosophers, researchers, and scholars in India to date.
