We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya, a luminary in the field of Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning, and one of IIT Bombay’s most brilliant minds. Professor Bhattacharyya’s contributions to computational linguistics, machine translation, and multilingual NLP have left an indelible mark on the academic and research landscape, not just in India but across the world. Prof. Bhattacharyya was only recently featured in the October 2025 edition of the Dean ACR newsletter for his latest significant accomplishments.

Our thoughts are with his family, students, colleagues, and the entire IIT Bombay community. Professor Bhattacharyya’s memory, his scholarship, and his profound contributions will live on, inspiring us all to pursue knowledge with the same passion, rigour, and humanity that he embodied.
