Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan Honoured at Rashtrapati Bhavan

IIT Bombay’s Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan (also an alumnus of the Institute), and Principal Investigator at BharatGen, was recently honoured at an In-house reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he met the President of India, the Hon’ble Smt. Droupadi Murmu. During the landmark event, he also had the privilege of interacting with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.

The recognition highlights BharatGen’s mission to make cutting-edge AI and Generative AI innovations accessible across India. It underscores the collaborative efforts of academia, startups, and policymakers in shaping the nation’s AI ecosystem and advancing the AI-for-Bharat movement.

At BharatGen, the team continues to contribute towards India’s technological self-reliance and global leadership in GenAI, exemplifying how innovation can align with national priorities. This milestone marks not only a proud achievement for BharatGen but also a step forward in India’s role in the global AI landscape.

 

Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya

Leading one of the most significant AI policy efforts in the country, IIT Bombay’s Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya chaired the Reserve Bank of India’s expert committee that delivered a landmark 26-point framework to guide the adoption of AI in India’s financial sector. Anchored in principles of trust, fairness, and accountability, the report charts a bold vision for building indigenous AI infrastructure while safeguarding consumer interests and strengthening the nation’s financial ecosystem.

Prof. Bhattacharyya is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, is the Major Bhagat Singh Rekhi Chair Professor, and the Head of the Centre for Indian Language Technology (CFILT). Recognized as one of India’s foremost authorities in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing, he has long been at the forefront of advancing research that connects cutting-edge technology with India’s linguistic and societal needs.

IITB’s Prof. Dhimant Vyas Wins Best Design Award 2025 for Sitare Zameen Par

Hearty congratulations to IIT Bombay’s Prof. Dhimant Vyas, Professor of Practice, IDC School of Design, for winning India’s Best Design Award 2025 for the title animation of the Aamir Khan starrer, the feature film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par.’

Prof. Vyas’ achievement is a testament to the talent and creativity nurtured at IIT Bombay, bringing national recognition to both the artist and the Institute. 

 

Prof. Swati Agarwal Triumphs at WAVES Awards

IIT Bombay congratulates Prof. Swati Agarwal, who clinched the Best Animation Award at the WAVES Awards 2025 for Chalisa, a captivating stop-motion musical celebrating the life of Lord Hanuman.

This was not her first award for the picture. Prof. Agarwal had previously earned the Best Director Award for the same film at the Asifa India Awards of Excellence 2024, adding another feather to her creative accolades.

Prof. Swati Agarwal’s consecutive national accolades for Chalisa highlight not just her mastery of animation, but also IIT Bombay’s commitment to nurturing world-class creative talent that brings Indian stories to global platforms.
