Prof. Aniruddha Gole is currently a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Manitoba, Canada.
After graduating from IIT Bombay, he received his PhD from the University of Manitoba in 1982. He has developed simulation tools for the power and energy industry, such as the Electromagnetic Simulation tool PSCAD/EMTDC. These are now universally used for HVDC and FACTS systems simulation, with over 40000
worldwide licenses, including the widely used RTDS real-time simulator. Prof. Gole is the Chair of several IEEE and CIGRE working groups. He is a Distinguished Professor (2011-present) and the NSERC Industrial Chair in Electrical and Comp. Engineering at the University of Manitoba (2004-21). He was also a Consulting HVDC Engineer with Manitoba Hydro (1991-94) and Hydro Quebec (1988-1989).
He has received several awards and accolades over the years that include:
– IEEE PES Uno Lamm HVDC Medal (2024).
– Honorary Visiting Professor, North China Electric Power University (2016-21).
– Rh Institute Bowman Award (2020).
– Advisory Member of the China Southern Grid Research Centre (2018-20).
– Elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering 2011.
– Elected Fellow of the Institute Of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) (2010).
– D.J. Gandhi Visiting Professor at IIT Bombay, 2010.
– IEEE PES Nari Hingorani FACTS Medal (2007).
– Govt. of Canada Synergy Prize for Innovation (2005).

I have kept my association and collaboration with IIT Bombay active and visit campus at least once every two years. Many former students from IIT became my post
graduate students or post-doctoral fellows. Some of them also spent periods as visiting scholars in the IIT EE Dept.
Hobbies:
Hiking, photography, reading, listening to 1950s-70s Hindi movie music, and travelling.
