Prof. Mayuresh V. Kothare, a distinguished alumnus of IIT Bombay, has recently been appointed Associate Dean for Research in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University. This new role is a significant step in his remarkable career, reflecting his commitment to advancing engineering research and innovation.
Prof. Kothare’s academic journey began at IIT Bombay, where he earned his Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering. His foundational education there set the stage for his impressive trajectory in the field. Since joining the faculty at Lehigh University in 1998, he has made substantial contributions to the discipline of chemical and biomolecular engineering, particularly in the development and application of advanced control systems in biomedical and energy-related processes.
During his tenure as chair of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department from 2012 to 2021, Prof. Kothare led transformative initiatives, including the integration of biomolecular engineering into the department’s focus. His leadership not only reshaped the research landscape but also prioritized diversity, significantly increasing the representation of female faculty.
Prof. Kothare’s cross-disciplinary research combines constrained and optimal predictive control theory with applications in chemical, biomedical, and neuro-engineered systems. Supported by grants from prestigious organizations such as NSF and NIH, his work has resulted in six US patents and collaborations with startups like Pharmateck LLC and Omni Life.
A dedicated academic, Prof. Kothare serves on numerous editorial boards and committees, influencing the direction of research publication and practice within the field. His work has garnered nearly 11,000 citations, establishing him as a leading expert in engineering and control systems.
