IIT Bombay’s esteemed alumnus, Dr. Pradeep P. Fulay (B.Tech., & M.Tech., 1982, 1984), and the lead Program Director for the Accelerating Research Translation (ART) program at the National Science Foundation (NSF), has been honoured with the NSF Director’s Award for Leading through Innovation. This prestigious accolade recognizes individuals who drive positive change within the NSF through innovative initiatives that promote calculated risk-taking and enhance system improvements.
Dr. Fulay’s exceptional design and implementation of the ART program have accelerated the translation of cutting-edge research into technologies that bolster economic growth and societal benefit. His leadership has proven pivotal in fostering collaborations between academia, industry, and government, ultimately bridging the gap between research and real-world applications.
An alumnus of IIT Bombay, Dr. Fulay earned both his B.Tech and M.Tech degrees from the Institute. His education provided him with a solid technical foundation and a collaborative spirit, which have been essential to his success throughout his career.
Before joining NSF, Dr. Fulay served as a tenured professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where he made significant contributions to materials science and engineering, particularly in the chemical synthesis of advanced electronic and magnetic materials. His work has garnered international recognition, leading to his election as a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society.
In addition to his current role in the ART program, Dr. Fulay also leads the Quantum Technology and Persons with Disabilities tracks in the NSF’s Convergence Accelerator program. His commitment to advancing technology for societal good aligns with the values nurtured at IIT Bombay, where alumni are encouraged to be pioneers in their fields.
