IIT Bombay and the University of Chicago convened their inaugural meeting at the U-Chicago Centre in New Delhi, thereby kickstarting the beginning of their collaborative endeavours. IIT Bombay is already an international partner of the renowned Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE), a pioneering intellectual centre for quantum information science and engineering. The CQE is spearheaded by the University of Chicago in conjunction with esteemed institutions like Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and others.
The two-day workshop was attended by faculty, students, and stakeholders from both institutes, as well as distinguished guests from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), industry leaders from organizations such as Applied Materials, IBM, C-DoT, TCS, and representatives from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
Under the leadership of Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, the meeting delved into comprehensive technical discussions on various quantum technologies, charting potential areas for collaborative exploration. Participants deliberated on the operational aspects of their partnership, envisioning initiatives like student exchange programs, workshops, and summer schools, while also addressing the logistical hurdles inherent in intercontinental exchanges. Moreover, there were strategic discussions on fostering a robust ecosystem in collaboration with industry and government agencies, with active involvement from SINE and Research Park of IIT Bombay.
This inaugural meeting between IIT Bombay and the University of Chicago marks the beginning of a collaboration, as well as the beginning of a transformative journey in quantum science. With a shared vision and collective expertise, both IIT Bombay and the University of Chicago are poised to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation, shaping the future of quantum information science and engineering.
