IIT Bombay and the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) signed an MoU for Project UDAAN – an Indian language end-to-end translation ecosystem for breaking the language barrier in education, initiated by IIT Bombay’s Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan. The MoU was signed by Prof. Girish Nath Jha, Chairman, CSTT, and Prof. Milind Atrey, Dean (R&D), IIT Bombay.

The CSTT is a subordinate body of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and is typically authorised to prepare scientific and technical terminology in Indian languages.

The collaboration will use scientific and technical terms in Modern Indian Languages (MIL) and will exchange resources and expertise to increase the use of technology in MIL. The goal is to increase the digitalisation of technical dictionaries/textbooks/glossary books in various modern Indian languages.

The initiative will also contribute to Bhashini (https://bhashini.gov.in/), the National Language Transmission Mission, led by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).
