Class of 1967

The Class of 1967 celebrated their Golden Jubilee in 2017 and spearheaded a remarkable alumni campaign to establish the prestigious Prof. N. R. Kamath Distinguished Institute Chair Professorship at IIT Bombay. They also contributed significantly to Project Evergreen, the new hostel infrastructure development (Hostel Complex H7-8-21). In recognition of their invaluable support, a dedicated breakout space in Hostel 7 has been named in honor of the Class of 1967.

Project

The project established a semester-long Visiting Chair Professorship at IIT Bombay, bringing in a distinguished global scholar to lead academic program development, support government R&D initiatives, engage with industry collaborations, and enrich the Institute’s teaching, research, and innovation ecosystem.

This Visiting Chair Professorship invites a world-renowned scholar with exceptional teaching and research credentials. Appointees are affiliated with a host department and provided with dedicated office and laboratory space, along with on-campus residential accommodation.

During their tenure, the Chair Professor offers expert guidance to government-sponsored R&D projects, and provides both academic and technical leadership.

They also contribute to industry engagement through consultancy, while actively participating in the Institute’s scholarly initiatives—thus enriching teaching, research, and innovation at IIT Bombay.

Project

Few initiatives in IIT Bombay’s history have reflected the power of alumni collaboration quite like Project Evergreen—a landmark effort bringing together vision, generosity, and a deep commitment to the student experience. This alumni-led, alumni-built, and alumni-delivered world-class hostel complex, supported by corporates and well-wishers, provides students with modern living spaces that enhance their campus experience. Three state-of-the-art hostels, H7, H8, and H21 (a dedicated women’s hostel), now add 848 hostel rooms with 1127 beds. Operational since July 2025, the hostels are home to students who are living, learning, debating, dreaming, and forming friendships that will last a lifetime.
